Love at second attempt
Maderas Oriente - Myrurgia (1918)
Giving this another try led to a wonderful surprise. I started looking for this beauty since I found reviews of the "jungle juice" design version (as I like to call it), and wanted to make sure I would like it before spending so much on a sealed vintage of the "extracto" version and ordered "Perfume Tocador" first instead, which I found surprisingly boring.
Perfume Tocador of Maderas Oriente is quite light, almost transparent, not very complex or impressive at all to me, it smelled mainly of ambergris like notes, some woody elements and sweet subtle spice, maybe cinnamon.
When I received this version, I was glad I did not invest too much in the more expensive version and had almost forgotten about this one, when recently I stumbled across this offer on "todocoleccion" spain.
They have plenty versions of this perfume there. The design of this version caught my eye, so I thought, why not give this another try.
This baby arrived today in fantastic condition, baudruchage still intact, beautiful color of the juice and while opening it I was not expecting this to be SO MUCH BETTER than that other version I tried.
This is powerful, dense, complex and very unique too. I would summon the description up by calling it the "most divaesque" balsamic woody creation I have smelled so far.
To me this has mahogany red woody notes, very warm and inviting, at the same time intoxicating and sensual. I feel there could be a good dose of sandalwood and maybe some ambergris too, besides subtle sweet balsamic resins and other woody notes. Not sure what floral notes these are, but I would say they are of the hypnotic type, as in ylang, sweet neroli and jasmin, it almost makes me dizzy smelling the area where I applied this on my skin.
Loving this. Anyone tried the other design of the extracto? If so, please let me know, as I am considering on finally clicking "buy" on this version of it too, as this one was a lucky find for me.
Cleopatra's Boudoir has this to say:
• Top notes: bergamot, lemon, neroli, coriander, marjoram
• Middle notes: clove, rose, orris, cyclamen, jasmine, ylang ylang
• Base notes: sandalwood, cedar, musk, benzoin, guiacwood
"A Fascinating Spanish Fragrance from Myrurgia. One of delightful woodsy fragrance touched by the mystery of the Orient."

If I would have to think of something this reminds me of, it would be "Myosotis Henry Jacques", but with more woody notes, more natural and more depth. Great stuff.
