I saw this fragrance among the discounted perfumes at a perfumery and immediately took it after a brief first test. Then it sat in my closet for a while, and I completely forgot how it smells.
After a very fresh and gourmand start, the wood of the base note quickly comes to the forefront. At first, one might assume it has a good sillage, but for me, Mauboussin pour Lui In Black was only perceptible close to the skin after a short time. However, it does have very good longevity. I really like the beginning of the fragrance, but it develops into something rather unremarkable for my nose in the drydown. A bit uneven, but by no means unpleasant.
I find it hard to categorize it, as I don't really see it as an everyday scent, and for an evening or going-out fragrance, it is a bit too weak.
Conclusion: For collectors, it's a nice piece because it's affordable and certainly makes a high-quality impression. The fragrance will likely evoke different opinions. I would describe it as a creation that takes some getting used to.
