For the Price, It's Okay, But Not Worth Mentioning
Some time ago, I was browsing eBay and stumbled upon Cartago quite by chance. Since the fragrance pyramid sounded appealing to me, I added it to my cart while continuing my search for a new TV. I paid a mere 9 € for a 90 ml bottle. I had no particular expectations, but at that price, I could also tolerate a dud.
First of all, I must say that the bottle looks significantly better than the terrible picture here suggests. The design can certainly be debated, but I quite like it. You can tell it's not a top-class designer fragrance, but it's somehow refreshingly different. In terms of quality, it holds its own against many designer fragrances. The glass is pleasantly heavy, and the spray head does what it's supposed to do. The only downside is the plastic cap, which slightly detracts from the overall impression.
The scent itself is unfortunately rather mediocre... It is consistently quite synthetic and initially a bit sharp. The notes in the top note and the name addition "Sport" suggest a citrus-fresh opening, but that is completely absent. It's somewhat citrusy, yes, somewhat fruity, yes, but it's far too heavily laced with a strong spice to really be considered fresh. Unfortunately, as it develops, none of the fragrance notes stand out distinctly. What remains is a strange medley of sweet spice that is not sporty at all.
The longevity and sillage also don't save it in the end. The scent disappears from my skin after just 2 to 4 hours and is rather subtle in its presence.
For the price, you can definitely give Cartago a try, but it will hardly suffice for anyone looking for more than a cheap office scent. Definitely more than unsuitable for athletic activities.
