Phew, the opening is intense. I initially had this smoky vibe in my head. But that settles down. For a long time, it stays with classic church incense, until the scent becomes wonderfully soft, warm, and cozy as it moves to the base. A gentle hint of vanilla comes through beautifully. I could see this for my husband; he really likes those smoky scents. A big thank you to @Ergoproxy for the opportunity to test it.
