Light, traditional, old school chypre
The reference that comes to mind is Balmain de Balmain.

Analogies are limited by the fact Balmain is stronger in the topnotes because of the presence of spices, while Quartz is softer along notes of traditional EdC's, namely, the bergamot, grapefruit zest, mandarin and lemon.

Mid notes are marked by soft powdery accords that could be the result of the presence of iris; at this time of the blend's development projection is quite toned down, as corresponds to its limited longevity.

In my case I got the bottle from my wife, given as a gift by her Mother. She did not wanted to wear it because of negative associations, she described it as "a dated compossition to be worn by old women". I decided to keep it as a curiosity, not only because I wanted to know what chypres were like, also because I think scents of this family of blends could be worn with discretion along a traditional citrus aromatic during the Summer time. As tested, they can be layered with excelent results.

Elegant Chypre
As a chypre lover you don't have it easy nowadays, most of them have been reformulated and don't have the old depth anymore. That's why I'm always looking...
This wonderful classic French perfume can be found at -comparatively- low prices, in French perfumeries it is everywhere on the shelves and it is definitely worth a test. I'm not good at describing notes, unfortunately, but he tends towards Molinard de Molinard, with a small, melancholic undertone. Wonderful, a little old-fashioned, but not dusty

Marvellous Molyneux
If you love Diorella, but can't afford the price tag, Quartz makes a wonderful substitute. The base is a tad woodier than Diorella and overall the fragrance is a little lighter, but by gosh it smells good. I have no idea who the nose was behind this gem, but it does have a Roudnitska feel about it, that perfect balance between clean but dirty he excelled at. Please don't buy this, I want it all to myself!

Alternative "Eau de Diorella"
A very fresh, discreet perfume. "Diorella" in a down-sized version, yet exhilerating and pleasant. More like an EAU fraiche than like a perfume, but very good value for money. Lasts longer than the average EAUX do. Totally underrated!

Light chypre that does not connote the decades since its launch. Good for the Summer and Spring. Could be for men if worn with discretiion.
