It didn't happen often back then, but a few times I had to supervise the censer. Thus, I also came into contact with unburned frankincense resin. When you opened the silver little box, it smelled just like this Montale fragrance.
Therefore, this Montale does not strike me as smoky but rather very resinous. As with all the Montale creations I have tested so far, you shouldn't smell too closely to the sprayed skin for the first 5 minutes, but afterwards, the impression of real frankincense resin truly develops. A very interesting and expressive scent.
While "Encens Flamboyant" by Goutal evokes the impression of a festive service during Christmas time for me, here the preparation in the sacristy has been captured.
