"A Difficult Birth ..."

... and that in double sense: I have now tested FHBN for the second time and for the second time it is going back. Somewhat reluctantly, because it was a hot flirt between me and this fragrance, but it is - that much is now certain - unfortunately not going to turn into a love affair.

An EDT that not everyone has, a bottle that is truly one of a kind, a scent experience that occupies a niche. Add to that my sympathy for musk, paired with my rejection of overly gourmand and leathery fragrances. The conditions seemed ideal for a hot night in a dark, dimly lit club. I'm already a bit "over it," the collar of my shirt is wide open, the bass is thumping, all the guests are sweaty. I lean against the bar and perceive something like a dark freshness that only fits this night, in a muggy room climate, carrying a hint of "decay."

From that perspective: Well done, Mr. Rodriguez! Only I find myself too rarely in such situations, and already on the way home I sniff again in clear, cool air. Suddenly it no longer fits. I will not have sex anymore, I am already mentally at the to-dos of the next day, feeling a bit "disheveled," and FHBN feels like a sweaty piece of clothing that I want to shed immediately.

Now, this may all sound a bit exaggerated, but that is exactly what I associate with FHBN. If I were looking for an EDT for exactly such occasions, this fragrance would be right at the top of my favorites list. Some party night owls of a younger generation might still find it not "cool" and "sexy" enough, but I have outgrown that phase. After a head note that is overly sweet for me, a "heavy freshness" sets in after about a quarter of an hour, if such a thing exists. I don't know where it comes from ... I would have expected a citrus note, which is obviously not present.

In short, FHBN is for me a seductive bride, with whom I would gladly take a dance, but that is solely due to the situation. When viewed in daylight, I then realize that we have hardly anything in common except for that nocturnal memory that connects us. Therefore, this will not work out between us. I will not introduce you to my friends and colleagues ... and before I call you twice a year to apologize for having neglected you for so long, I’d rather just leave it! ;-)

I can somehow relate to that... I've tested the scent 4 times now and find it very pleasant... but I'm still waiting for that "click" moment before it joins my collection.

Hi Farneon,

I'm curious about what you mean by "and twice he went back." I often make blind purchases at easy cosmetics, etc., and sell the ones I don't like at a loss on eBay. Is there an alternative (besides the decants offered here, etc.)? Thanks in advance.

A brief, intelligent, and profound comment that I really relate to... and the scent... it has to do with maturity, not seizing every opportunity when you know the stale taste the next day... enjoyed reading it!
