Tribute to J.C. Ellena
From Narciso Rodriguez house I expect something bold. Unfortunately Bleu Noir is a just another contemporary cross between Cartier Declaration (cardamom) and Terre d'Hermes (vetiver and lots of Iso E Super). Developing to the base Iso E Super becomes more and more pronounced.
Just another standard delivery, nothing's new here. Already smelt.

Fast forward trip to soapy bliss
Pun intended.

It does have the resemblances mentioned ad nauseam, however, as a reference. A very difficult concept to explain - the notes are analogous but the development is not, the general feeling is different: creamier, balsamic, lactonic.

It is complex, it shows its different facets as time goes by. It has very decent projection and longevity, one of those that goes along the day allowing for good company for the day. At the end of the day you get the sopay - clean sensation mentioned in the title, which, for me, is a good thing.

Five sprays of this and two of Terre D'Hermes makes a perfect combination.

Too much cardamom
This is a joint review of the following four Narciso Rodriguez fragrances:
For Him Bleu Noir EdT
For Him Bleu Noir EdT Extreme
For Him Bleu Noir EdP
For Him Bleu Noir Parfum

Testing these four was a valuable experiment for me. I determined two things:
1. I don't like strong cardamom scents
2. I don't care for very powdery fragrances.

Since three of these four fragrances have these two characteristics in varying degrees, three were rated lower while a fourth was rated better. Now, let's get into the specifics of all four.....

For Him Bleu Noir EdT was the most cardamom forward of the four fragrances but also fairly low in the powdery attribute. The strong cardamom, which was evident from the start, really caused me to immediately dislike it.

For Him Bleu Noir EdT Extreme did not have cardamom and wasn't powdery. Surprisingly, as a flanker, it went off in a totally different direction. It is a nice freshie. I'd describe the scent as fresh, woody and slightly green. Pleasant to wear but not an outstanding fragrance that would induce me to buy a full bottle.

For Him Bleu Noir EdP is an in-between fragrance. The cardamom note, although still quite noticeable, was toned down compared to the EdT but the powdery attribute was dialed up. The scent clearly sits between the EdT and the Parfum. Because of the still strong cardamom, I didn't care for it.

For Him Bleu Noir Parfum dials the cardamom down even more than the EdP but significantly dials up the powdery attribute. I did not care for the strong powdery aspect.

If I had to choose one, it would be the Extreme which I certainly wouldn't mind wearing.

Regarding performance, all four were rather moderate in the projection department after the first hour. Longevity was a mixed bag. The EdT and EdP had very good longevity even though they hung close to the skin. They were still noticeable after 12 hours. The Parfum dropped out after about 8 hours while the Extreme has the worst performance. It was gone in about 6 hours.

My recommendations would be as follows. If you're looking for a strong cardamom fragrance, definitely go with the EdT. If you want a very powdery fragrance, go with the Parfum. If you'd like something more in between, go with the EdP. If you want a freshie, there are a lot better options than the Extreme.

A warm and cosy scent
I'm a Narciso fan. This was the first Narciso I bought - I have since purchased the other three. In fact, I would like to have most of the women's releases if not for the price and especially the fact that they are so very feminine.

There are lots of comparisons between this and Terre d'Hermès and/or Cartier Declaration. I won't delve into that; I find that this is very much its own perfume independently of similar notes or accords and disagree with statements that this is a copy of either of those fragrances.

Bleu Noir EdT opens strong and spicy with the cardamom and nutmeg (although my untrained nose cannot distinguish the nutmeg). Wrapping the spices is a warm and cosy musk that makes everything very soft and plush. If you dig your nose into it you can distinguish something else lurking in the background - woods (and vetiver maybe).

As it dries down, the spices start fading away, and after two hours the scent has mostly settled down to a very classy and distinct woodsy and musky fragrance with hints of the spices. At first what I loved the most was the opening, but with repeated wearings I started liking the dry down more and more.

Performance is not too shabby. Strong opening with fairly good projection and sillage in the first couple of hours. It then starts getting closer to the skin but lasts about 6-8h in total with a nice scent bubble and even a while longer as a skin scent.

This and its younger brother Bleu Noir EdP have not gotten much love from the community, but I adore them and am very happy to have them in my collection.

Cartier Declaration's & Terre D'Hermes little baby
Mix of Terre D'Hermes and Cartier Decleration, Nothing extraordinary here. Period.
You can get one out of the three and I'd recommend Terre D'Hermes EDT.

This whole line is "inspired" by Déclaration. Green cardamom up top, musk and woods in the base. Good but kinda redundant. 3/5

Soapy woody/vetiver scent with an earthy touch. People's pleaser that may be redundant in big collection. Perfect starter of one tho.

My first olfactory love: spicy cardamom on a sensual musky-woody base. Comfortable and versatile fragrance. Performance is a bummer, though.

Similarities with S. T. Dupont, Declaration and accords in common with Terre D'Hermes in a balmier / creamier context.

Lovely scent, a new direction in the For Him family but still has the DNA, like a cousin. Such a shame the performance is so poor
