Hey guys, how are you? Today I’m going to talk about Pink Friday from the brand Nicki Minaj, the famous rap queen, whose first completely solo album was also called Pink Friday. It’s no surprise that celebrities release their own fragrances; of course, I’m sure that these scents are not composed by them (most likely, they would rather commission a fragrance). Perhaps this is also the reason why many celebrity fragrances can sometimes be really bad, as they just want to release “something with their celebrity name” (although there are also quite good scents among such perfumes, like “Still” by Jennifer Lopez).
The first thing that stands out here is neither the name nor the fragrance notes, but the bottle. It has a slight resemblance to the Gaultier bottles (you know, those bottles in the shape of a female bust or body… yeah, who needs a head when you can have breasts, right?… :DDD), but here, instead of just the torso, there’s also a head, which in my opinion brings the bottle down quite a bit because the head looks somehow creepy, in my opinion… :D Sure, Nicki has an extravagant and extremely exaggerated appearance herself, which is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea (myself included), but that’s her image and trademark, and it seems to work. What doesn’t work, at least in my opinion, is the transfer of that appearance to the bottle, which almost looks like a poorly made death mask of a pharaoh rather than something sexy :D
Well, anyway, it’s all about the inner values, whether you believe it or not, right? (Pah, who believes that, but with fragrances, it seems to be true, mu ha ha ha). Alright, let me apply the fragrance and see how it smells!
The Scent:
The scent starts off sweet, fruity, and synthetic. From the fruits, you can smell a mix of pear, general berries, a bit of mandarin, and a little watermelon. The scents don’t smell very authentic, but more aromatic-gummy, which is still okay since it doesn’t smell bad, but it does come across as more girly. The sillage is on par with many mainstreamers, like the Gaultier fragrances mentioned earlier. For me, there are two types of synthetics: one is the terrible synthetic note that drags every fragrance down and makes it smell like a 2 Euro cheap scent, or the normal synthetic that you might not like, but at least isn’t running away from you. Here it’s still okay, but I somehow fear it could get worse in the base, but we’ll see.
Anyway, the scent is as described, very sweet, with most of that sweetness coming from jasmine, and there’s also a little vanilla detectable.
After a while, the fruity notes become a bit weaker, the sweetness remains as before, but it becomes “darker,” meaning that instead of jasmine, you can now smell more musk. The vanilla also becomes stronger, making the scent appear more powdery and softer. This also makes the fragrance warmer towards the base. In the base, the scent remains as described and surprisingly doesn’t smell bad at all, at least for such a sugary fragrance. And I also appreciate that the synthetic aspect doesn’t increase further. All in all, it’s quite okay!
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is okay to slightly weak; from a distance, you won’t perceive the scent very well, although it does project quite well at first. The longevity is quite good at six to seven hours.
The Bottle:
So, as mentioned at the beginning, the bottle is shaped like a female torso, including a head. While the torso is actually okay (though one could debate the choice of clothing), I find the head less successful. This is because the face has been completely gilded, which looks somehow strange when it shines extremely from every angle but also casts shadows, and well… I don’t know, to me, it doesn’t look that nice. As I said, I even find it quite creepy under certain lighting, like a monster from a horror movie that comes and stares at you with its empty eyes and wants to take you… :D
Conclusion:
Okay, the scent here isn’t anything too special, but it’s not extremely bad either. I actually think it smells quite good for a “typical mainstreamer.” It will surely have its fans, and perhaps not just girls :D
Especially those who like quite sweet fragrances might warm up to it, although I think that due to its overly sweet and synthetic aura, it will appeal more to the younger ones among you (if there are any younger ones among you, mu ha ha ha :DDD … that was a joke!!! :DD), but as I said, I think it could also appeal to the… older ones among you, perhaps,… you just have to look past the ugly bottle when testing.
However, I still think there are better-made fragrances in this direction, like Pink Sugar or some of the Juicy Couture fragrances like Juicy Sucré, but ultimately that’s just a matter of taste. A test isn’t strictly necessary, but it wouldn’t hurt to have tried it.
There’s not much more to say, so I’ll wrap it up and wish you all a pleasant evening, see you later :)
