Imperfect

This pyramid reads wonderfully! It could have been exactly my thing: a spicy-rounded chypre with a heart of gold. I almost would have bought it blindly from a friendly perfume seller, but then I remembered the sample vial I had.

"Norell" is the first chypre in my testing series that I find truly old-fashioned. I was almost a little embarrassed to sit with it on the subway. Is it the clove? The mimosa? A cologne undertone? I don't like it ... It is spicy and green and perhaps has everything a chypre needs to truly be one. Yet I still miss something.

It is so thin. "Like butter spread too thin on too much bread," if you know what I mean ... Just a shadow compared to its chypre relatives that reside in my collection. My favorite pieces are so wonderfully rounded and indescribably rich in facets that I find it pure pleasure to inhale them.

"Norell," on the other hand, is like a popsicle, where I love ice cream. That's how it is. And not otherwise.

Oh, what a shame! Norell immediately caught my eye when I tested the vintage miniature! It's a fantastic chypre, and the only reason it’s not in my bathroom is that it’s a bit too warm for vintages there. Consolation prize!

The old formula of Norell was wonderful and I suspect it wouldn't have disappointed you. It must have been the toned-down, reformulated version that let you down. I felt the same way.

Well described, "this scratched butter." I thought I would really like it too, but I was a bit disappointed as well! Here’s a little butter for you...
