But please, keep it clean
After it became a must for every woman in the 50s and 60s to carry a bottle of 4711 in her handbag, the Cologne water was complemented by Lavex wipes at the beginning of the 70s. The older ladies were thrilled, while the kids were less enthusiastic. Their mothers were somewhat in between. For the hot summer days, which we now have in abundance and simply call warm, the Lavex wipes promised pure refreshment. People would go on coffee or pleasure trips to neighboring countries and dream with the rising, by the way, very likeable pop star from Prague of traveling around the world.
When the lady of the world needed refreshment, a little packet was opened. Inside was a firm paper towel soaked in a peculiar mixture of all Cologne waters. It started off medically citrusy. Later, there was a bit of lavender and rosemary. Then it went back to being citrusy and alcoholic. With the wipe, hands, mouths, foreheads, and tabletops were cleaned. Once everything was clean, the scent had already faded. Lavex was also used against headaches and travel sickness (though I felt nauseous from the scent, not from the sausage). The wipe then went into the trash and lingered there for a bit, giving off a faint odor.
After all these years, I find it hard to describe the scent that the wipes were soaked in. Unique, chemical, and somewhat medicinal, and I would recognize it immediately.
