Signature scent par excellence

The scent smells incredibly good. I know nothing comparable. I have often read that it smells like fir, balsamic, etc. That always put me off a bit. I always had a sauna association with it. Fortunately, that is not the case. I have worn the scent relatively often now and asked many people what they think of it. One of the very few fragrances that everyone really liked.

Please don’t get me wrong, because maybe the comparison is very far-fetched: I can still remember when I got Aventus many years ago. I simply had the feeling of owning an incredibly "sovereign" scent. A scent that hovers above everything else. For me, it was simply an exalted fragrance. If I had read back then that it smells like pineapple, I would probably have flinched and never given the scent a chance. It is similar with Ormonde Jayne. Yes, it smells balsamic. But the association I have with the scent is the same as the one I had many years ago with Aventus: I have a very "sovereign" scent with me again. And fortunately, this one is much rarer, so you no longer have to hear: you smell like someone’s ex, dad, brother, etc...

Unfortunately, I am not skilled enough to describe the scent sufficiently well in its individual components. But perhaps an association: I have always been very impressed by Helmut Schmidt. His eloquence. His intellect. He never had to push himself into the foreground, but he was always the center of attention. He was perceived by everyone and equally respected. I think Ormonde Jayne would have been the perfect perfume for him... even though a tobacco scent would probably be more fitting given his cigarette consumption...

By the way: the photo here is not quite accurate. You can only buy it in the store in London. I got it in a 120ml bottle. It only says EDP on it, even though it is the 50% version. The red thread is completely missing. The scent is also significantly darker. More like olive green.

Compared to the 40% version, I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference in the store. But I thought the 50% version probably has a slightly better longevity, so I got it. However, there are significant differences with the EDP. It’s simply a whole different league. I wouldn’t recommend the EDP. Either the 40 or 50% version.

For me, it is a signature scent not because I think it suits me particularly well, but because I believe it simply fits always and for everyone.

And finally, a few scores:
Scent: 10/10
Longevity: 9/10
Sillage: 8/10
Unique: 10/10 (I know nothing comparable, and once you’ve smelled it, you recognize it immediately)
Compliment factor: 10/10 (everyone likes it, both women and men equally)
Bottle/packaging: 3/10 (it really doesn’t look special; they could have put in a bit more effort)

In-store in London. There, they can put together different sizes/concentrations for you. Best regards.

A question: where did you buy the fragrance? I can only find the EDP version.

Hi Mehdi; the cord is for the 50 ml splash bottle. The 120 ml looks different (spray).

Thanks for your review! I'm currently desperately trying to get my hands on the scent (perfume, 40% is enough). My regular boutique just called to let me know that it’s no longer available like that, but the perfume version is now being sold under the name Elixir. I always thought of the Elixir as a separate scent. Can anyone clarify this, or even tell me where I can find the perfume version? :) THANK YOU
