Smoky Rags and Salad Dressing

I was quite curious about "Vanille d'Iris" because I like the fragrance pyramid - still do. Unfortunately, I had to realize that VdI is not a scent for me. But let's start from the beginning:

VdI starts off for me with an unpleasant smoky note. It's as if a smoker hung their jacket in a non-smoking household, and once they're gone, you wonder: What is that? Until you remember who was visiting.

Then comes a lovely phase: The spices are warm and spicy, and after a while, a timid floral powder joins in. Ah! Now we're getting somewhere. Unfortunately not: Because after about an hour, maybe 1 1/2, an unpleasant sour note settles in, and I can't help but think of salad dressing: vinegar, oil, spices well mixed... And this mixture lingers on my skin for quite a while, and I try to keep my nose away from it. Good thing the sillage doesn't seem to be too strong, at least no one approaches me about my scent in the afternoon.

When I sniff my wrist again after a few hours, there is an exceedingly weak base of cedar-spiced, sweet vanilla.

I thank Serenissima and Susan for the opportunity to test this.

I can't smell anything smoky here, and as a complete non-smoker (though I had smoking parents... I hated that!), I'm very sensitive to it. After wearing it several times, I find it really unique as a whole scent. But you have to be good with iris and vetiver... that might have left you with a 'vegetal' impression. My wishlist has definitely grown ;-)

That definitely wouldn't be for me either. I usually have a problem with sour scents.

Salad dressing? I must have really missed that!
Or did that vanilla-iris play a nasty trick on you from the kitchen?
No, that's definitely not beautiful!

It showed its best side for me. The smoke is just subtle, but maybe I'm just used to it as an E-cigarette smoker. (My keyboard is acting up...)

Sounds good, but I think it might be too subtle for me... Trophy for you :)

Another one that I won't even add to my wishlist. Maybe I should create a list of "non-wishlist fragrances";-)

Oh no, after Augusto's comment, I was really excited about the scent, and now you're mentioning smokers: If it smells like cigarettes, that's always a dealbreaker for me. I don't want to smell like a smoker. I guess I'll have to test it myself in peace. No other choice. But it stays on my wishlist.

Thanks, now it's not on the wish list anymore, but on the favorites list.

This is one of the few aggressively chemical scents that I somewhat liked.

I guess the salad dressing note came from the vetiver.

I couldn't get into that one either. Some fragrances just leave you puzzled...

That's really disappointing, as the list of fragrance notes sounds promising at first. But salad dressing belongs on the salad, not on the skin. And smoky clothes were already unpleasant for me back in my smoking days.

I felt the same way... I couldn't warm up to it either... it’s too "non-perfume" for me (if that makes sense), and it also reminds me too much of "specific things"... in your case, it was the smoky jacket and the salad dressing... I can't even remember what it was for me... just more "SMELL" than "FRAGRANCE"...
