Victorian Floral Chypre

When I first shared my thoughts on this fragrance, I only had a previously opened auction bottle in my possession, and I wasn't quite sure if the scent was still completely intact. The perfume struck me as somewhat quirky...
Since I am a fan of Penhaligon perfumes, especially the older, often very decorative bottles, I also jumped at an offer for a like-new bottle (along with the pretty box), which is what my comment refers to now.

Right from the first spray, "Victorian Posy" makes it clear that it belongs to the Chypre family. The oakmoss is unmistakable and adds a slightly bitter note. Those who know my comments are aware that I am not a big fan of Chypres. In my childhood in the 70s, this fragrance direction was apparently much more widespread than today; many of the perfumes from that time I found to be piercing or headache-inducing. Today, I am more open to Chypres, some I quite like, but they rarely receive high ratings from me.
The floral classification certainly applies as well, but anyone expecting a lush or sweet floral bouquet - the perfume's name suggests something like that - might be disappointed. The flowers tend to stay more in the background. I can hardly perceive any sweetness. For my taste, it's a rather austere perfume. I have revised my initial classification of "creamy" (referring to the opened bottle I purchased) and instead clicked on "woody." Either there are different formulations, or the opened fragrance has indeed changed somewhat. VP feels a bit "out of time" to me. However, anyone who enjoys the Chypres of the 70s should definitely give it a try!

About the bottle: I apparently have two examples of an older version with a fir green ribbon and a larger label, on which the bouquet takes up more space. In my opinion, it's prettier than the more minimalist version shown here. Photo to follow!
