My South Sea Dream Scent

For this fantastic fragrance and for me the first review … After being seduced by a sample from a dear perfumer with the EdP, and shortly thereafter finding a good offer for the extrait, I couldn't resist. I love Ylang Ylang; and this scent immediately transports me back to a wonderful South Sea island, where I first smelled Ylang Ylang and admired the flowers. I dream myself back into the hammock between the coconut palms, surrounded by a tropical garden with a sea of flowers…

Regarding the scent progression, my untrained nose notes that Ylang Ylang is at the forefront from the very beginning. It smells almost identical to my aroma oil, with which I patiently revived my sense of smell after a Corona infection. Therefore, I can well imagine that this is real Ylang Ylang from the island of Nosy Be - near Madagascar - as described by Perris Monte Carlo. And not a synthetic imitation. Besides the dominant Ylang Ylang scent, I also recognize notes of jasmine, but no rose. I perceive the fragrance as strong, but not piercing. It feels warm, enveloping, and super suitable for daydreaming. Authentic tropical floral abundance… The base notes remain very much in the background for my nose; Ylang Ylang dominates the scent progression from beginning to end.

I found the EdP of Ylang Ylang Nosy Be to be more intense with an almost narcotic scent explosion; that was a bit too much for me… In Embrun d’Ylang by Guerlain, Ylang Ylang is significantly more subtle, and the vanilla gets more space. And compared to Ylang in Gold by Micallef, which I also tried, Ylang Ylang Nosy Be Extrait is significantly less sweet, more authentic, and also a more suitable scent for hot summer days.

This extrait is certainly only suitable for Ylang Ylang lovers… and for everyone who wants to embark on a scent journey into the tropical floral world. Thus, it remains a very special fragrance, not for every day and rather not for the office, but for me a dreamy scent that I can also well imagine on a gloomy winter day on the sofa. The longevity is very good for me; and a decent sillage was confirmed to me with “a scent cloud throughout the entire stairwell.” So, dose sparingly; given the price, that makes sense too ;-)

It seems to be true here as well - the extrait is subtler and less overpowering than the EDP.
