Galadriel was born a princess of Ñoldor but her most known titles are the Lady of Lórien or simply the Lady of the Wood. She is described as ‘the mightiest and fairest of all elves, that remained in Middle Earth’. Her hair was a mix of her father’s golden hair and her mother’s silver hair, which gave it an ‘unmatched marvel’. She generously gave three strands to Gimli the Dwarf, when he asked for just one. This happened when the Fellowship were to leave Lothlorien to continue the quest for taking the One Ring to Mount Doom and destroy it. Galadriel, beautiful and wise, played an important part in J.R.R.Tolkien’s universe. Her perfume would be Infusion d’Iris.
I met Infusion d’Iris, when it had just hit the market in 2007. I remember noticing the delicate bottle with its characteristic pale green embossed decoration on the top and the box. It stood there on the counter and shined like a day in Spring. It was just me and the bottle in the room. I sprayed. I sniffed. Galbanum. Italian mandarin orange, Neroli… ‘I would like to buy this’ I heard myself saying.
I have never regretted the purchase, even though I did not wait for the development in the store. I did not give it two seconds, but I was not disappointed, when I walked away with my new treasure, and the fragrance started to develop. The best floral aspect, so gorgeous and delicate. It has been one of my Twenties - my top twenty - ever since. It is the most inoffensive fragrance, but I tend to overspray when wearing, because it is so light and volatile.
Right now I am in between bottles. I have run out but of course I have a sealed bottle of the original 2007 edition, dated year 2011, in the closet. I do think I shall save it, though, until I get one more.
And Lady Galadriel probably piled up several bottles of this fragrance in her luggage, before she went to the West for eternal exile.
