A boat rocking gently at golden hour

After one hour of swimming in open waters, you backstroke to your boat, eager to get out of the water and rest in the golden sun.

You grab the boat's rim, pull yourself out and simply crash inside.

You are tired. You stretch your numb feet alongside the old, wooden, crusty boat that hosts old fishnets used by fishermen before you, that still smell of scales and faint algae. You rest your head on a curled up, thick hemp rope that is powdered by salt dust that dried on it throughout the years. Thin hemp strings that protrude from it tickle the back of your neck.

As you lay on your back in your creaky old rocking boat, the warm winds move the scent of sweet sunscreen that evaporates from your pores. You applied some, hours before jumping in for a swim, and the oily film from the protective cream still lingers on your tanned skin.

The sun still pulsates, like warm whispers in your ear.

Your shoulders gathered grains of salt that were scattered within your boat, and on your bicep you feel the tender tickle of a long, thing, algae, that started drying on your oily skin in the shape of a long root.

Salt starts crystallising on your body and you slowly dry up. You start having that odd sensation of your whole skin shrinking. It feels as if your shell won't fit your body anymore, and even though you are alone, on your rocking boat in the middle of the seemingly infinite sea, the sensation of your skin closing in on you makes it feel as if nothing is large enough to fit your body anymore.

And all you sense is the smell of the salty hemp rope from beneath your head, the oily, sweet sunscreen film covering your sunburnt body, the thin, root shaped algae on your arm and the old fishnets scattered with dried scales left behind by fishermen before your.

And every time you spray a bit of Acqua di Sale, you will inevitably be thrown right back to this very moment.
