Brescello in a Bottle.
For me, the camphor, anise, and chinotto accords are the most dominant. I ordered the aftershave mainly because of the camphor accord, as I only know camphor as incense and wanted to get an impression of how it is implemented in a fragrance. Repubblica di Genova is a warm scent - the brown color that appears partially on the label represents this quite well. The anise gives it a hint of "Pernod" - not unpleasant, the bitter orange, which I would describe as a ripe sour blood orange, adds a nice acidity to the fragrance, especially in the top note. As it develops, the green, herbal notes come into play, and the base is "smoothed" by wood, nutmeg, and amber. A touch of vanilla rounds off the scent profile. The longevity is decent for an aftershave. I would describe Repubblica di Genova as a bit "out of time" - in a positive sense - in the blinding sunlight of piazza della chiesa in Brescello; Mayor Bottazzi hurries across the deserted piazza, freshly shaved from the barber. His chin still shines from the generously applied shaving water. His destination is a visit to the local priest. In his hand, a bag of anise cookies...in the distance, the singing from the rice fields can be heard...the summer is still young...
