Stereotypical Carnation-Heavy 80s Floral
Charlie Red is an inexpensive fragrance, usually found in discount stores or hidden in small-town chemists. For the price, I really didn't expect much, although I must admit that I enjoy the original Charlie and Charlie Gold.
Charlie Red is a sweet, warm and classy floral. It is surprisingly creamy and long lasting on the skin, with tuberose, carnation, peach, gardenia, ylang ylang and amber. I find it very easy to like.
Charlie Red does tend to open rather loud at first, however the heart and drydown are much smoother. I can honestly say that the top notes do smell mature, however the creamy, sweet drydown suggests that it can be worn by any woman, of any age.
It's not an overly complex fragrance, but it's not boring either. I think it would make an excellent and affordable staple in any perfume wardrobe. I also wouldn't hesitate to try blending Charlie Red with other fragrances. It could add a pleasant, creamy white floral quality to anything spicy or citrusy.
This might come as a shock to some, but Charlie Red is actually quite sexy. I can definitely see this inexpensive gem gaining quite a few compliments. Not bad for something so cheap. I recommend.
