I was quite swept away by the many, many comments here and elsewhere on the internet, and the words "better than the regular, worlds better, upgrade, etc." kept going through my mind, and I absolutely needed it since I already like the old one.
So my expectations were incredibly high, and I was expecting the holy grail. Especially since I always go for Extraits. I love Extraits.
The fragrance arrived, the joy was immense, and the expectations were through the roof. Then the first spray... my nose told me, okay... it's okay... okaaaaaaay. My head told me, you're mistaken, it has to be amazing, you just need to wait a moment... in my head, "wait, wait, wait" echoed. Smelled it again, and my nose was like, "it's okay, I've smelled worse." It's fine.
Please don't misunderstand. The scent is quite okay, but worlds better than the regular? No. An upgrade? Hmm, yes and no. Less piercing, but nicer in scent, not for me. Everyone says a garden in Florence. Those associations were already present with the OG. I agree here too, BUT for me, it's a garden in Florence in the morning, where it rained at night and is still damp in the morning.
About the scent: The opening is minty green with a lot of shower gel vibes. Very fresh. The mint disappears quite quickly for me, and it remains green and herbaceous citrus until the end. The longevity is very, very, very good. The sillage is not phenomenal but decent in the first hours.
Even after showering, it was still detectable on my skin.
For me, it's a bit Greenley regarding the shower gel aspect with a touch of the regular di Boboli for the green notes. But I miss the apple.
Is it worth the money? Hmm. Considering that the regular one is available on sale for about €140, which is also very green floral and has good longevity/sillage, and this one costs €265 and is, in my eyes, just a slight upgrade and not a completely different scent... rather no. For collectors or velvet lovers, it might be the one. I don't want to question the opinions of others here; I just want to say that maybe not everyone experiences it like I do, that you absolutely have to have this and that there are worlds in between, and the expectations are so high that they might not be fulfilled.
If you have the opportunity, you should test it and consider whether the extra cost is worth it.
I will now use it properly and eventually get the OG again.
Thanks for your post :) Now I’d rather just get a decant too instead of blind-buying a full bottle. I found the OG’s sillage absolutely insane-you could fill an entire room with just 2-3 sprays. I do like that in itself, but I always found the OG “too” synthetic, which is why I wanted to try the LE. I think the LE works really well in Rosso 17. They’re similar, but the LE has more of a “fizzy candy powder” kick.
It’s still very room-filling. It doesn’t smell synthetic, so it definitely gets that point right. It’s a solid choice. The apple is a little lacking, though. Still, you can’t really go wrong with it.
I found it to be quite citrusy at the start. After 30 minutes, it drifts into a floral scent with a woody base, which smells okay but isn't anything special. I just don't understand why they didn't stick with the OG. It's similar to the 17 Rosso. Nothing is better than the original, just similar/different.
I'll stick with the OG here. Even though it comes across as a bit more synthetic than the LE, I still prefer it a hundred times more because of that apple-fresh laundry kick.
