Vaninight — Sweet Crayons

This is one of those reviews where I can't bother discussing the individual notes that makeup the fragrance. When I wear Vaninights, all I can think of is... a sweet, waxy crayon. It's pretty though! I just can't really think of another way to describe it. It's a vanilla gourmand, sure, but the texture is hard to ignore and it's not a standard sugary, sweetness.

If you're into gourmands but looking for something a little bit different from the standard offering, I think this is a great choice. I'm usually wary of almond (smelling like sharp, almond extract or marzipan) or tonka (plasticky and rubber-like to my nose), but this isn't either of those. It's still very wearable and pleasant to smell.

Pleasant spicy vanilla, almond, and cinnamon

The opening is quite pleasant, spicy vanilla and almond and cinnamon. I feel like I can detect some cedar. The cinnamon remains and the almond gets stronger as time goes on. I think the almond keeps it from becoming cloying and overly sweet, and there’s a leather note that also keeps things a little punchier than just a plain vanilla scent.

It’s not one I’d seek out, but it’s interesting and unique. I have the sample set, and I’m really liking how each Hermetica is so different, regardless of whether I would want to actually wear it. This one is definitely wearable.

Vanilla Blanket (on it)

"Vaninight" may sound like a remedy for vaginal yeast infections or something, but it is essentially a gentle and very defensive vanilla scent suitable for Christmas markets to cozy couches.

A slightly floral gourmand that would also fit well with Les Senteurs Gourmandes. "24 Gold" does indeed give a little nod, but I like it overall much better with its volume and curvier development than this straight caramel cake. The slightly peppery beginning doesn't add any fire to it anymore. "Vaninight" relies too much on its deliciousness. Leather is negligible. Unfortunately. At most good, rather a bit less for me. Especially in terms of gourmands, there are simply entire universes with much better alternatives.

Bottle: Cream color would have suited better here
Sillage: gourmandish and sleepy
Longevity: 7-8 hours makes it pleasantly languid

Conclusion: a tasty, slightly synthetic vanilla crescent scent somewhere between aromatherapy, scented candle, and a snoozing nose.
