Cini Minnis
CINI MINIS is a delicious cereal children's breakfast with an irresistible cinnamon taste...
So it says in the description of these breakfast cereals,
Wait...
Wrong forum...
Or not??
It's about Halston Z-14 Eau de Cologne, current version.
Well I must say, the neck tone beats quite a lot at the beginning, but quickly becomes calmer and finally lies down quite gently to fade away.
It begins pungent citric and very extreme after being sprayed on. It is loud. Very loud. First thought: Eugh, wash it off immediately.
But I pulled myself together and behold, the lemon butterfly unfolds for 5 long minutes and cinnamon appears. Bombastic loads of Cini Minnies rain from oversized cereal keys into my olfactory center. It also reminds me of Christmas and this fragrance lamp in our kitchen, which smells so good of blood orange-cinnamon scented oil during the Advent season. So the throat tone first swishes through the area, becomes rounder, the sting from the beginning is gone and you almost feel like a refreshing Big Red chewing gum. Although the cinnamon never tastes sweet but remains warm and spicy.
2 hours have passed, the charm of the 70s floats through the apartment. Spicy, incensey and discreetly it hangs in the air and on me. It is no longer loud but still present. The lemon still flashes through here and there, and I feel like a walking cinnamon stick in herbs and light incense Towards the end it gets a little mossy and minimally soapy and the lemon-cinnamon fun rises to the finale and leaves the stage.
Conclusion: You can indulge yourself and do a little time travel, somehow you waddle with Halston through a few nice hours and for the price, which is called on various online pages for the current version, you can access without hesitation. If you like cinnamon as the main scent, you'll get your money's worth here, too.
Finally I would like to mention the fancy bottle the neck tone is filled in. It is mMn so ugly and retro that I have to give 9 points for the bottle for this extravagance in the bathroom cabinet alone ;)

Thanks for reading

Heading for middle age and still smelling good
How weird is this statement?Without lemon and cinnamon Z-14 would be just another overblown mess of a 1970's macho cologne.

Now, you may well ask, "Are you serious? Isn't the combination of lemon and cinnamon just begging to be an overblown mess in the first place?"

Surprisingly, each note plays a role in keeping the all the colors of Z-14 from mixing together into a dull amalgam of brown.

Lemon may be the top note but, surprisingly, it lasts through the life of Z-14 and gives necessary brightness to this otherwise dark, leathery fragrance. And the cinnamon note works in a very interesting way. While it matches so well with the leather accord it also acts like an aromatic element keeping the otherwise blended fragrance from becoming too dense. Its slight spiciness helps airs things out a bit.

The leather accord in Z-14 is dark and burnished, yet not at all harsh. No over the top birch tar or smokiness. I think it's this well balanced leather accord that has made Z-14 such a classic, popular fragrance.

Many reviewers have written about the similarities of Z-14 and Tom Ford Italian Cypress. While they share some general similarities the differences are substantial. Even though Z-14 has a reputation as a big scent it's actually the lighter and brighter of the two. Frankly, Italian Cypress has a depth and quality that Z-14 can't match. However, Z-14 still has a place in my wardrobe when I want to wear a leather fragrance that's lighter and has less edge. Besides, for the price of a 3 ml decant of Italian Cypress you can own a full bottle of a classic.

Time capsule...
This was the first fragrance I remember wearing in 1977. I was only 13 and surprisingly fragrance saavy. This was so urban. Growing up in the 70s let ones character develope freely. Halston ideal for me. I had no clue what was in it. I only knew it was perfect on my young body. I am shocked when others call this "old mens". It was "Teenage Wasteland"! I recognized herbs, spices and woods. Little did I know that oakmoss would be my companion for life, even after the ban in 2000.

I wore it to the roller skating rink, leaving behind my incredible wake, my feathered hair blowing in the breeze! Then I would hang out with friends at the mall. I wore it to see Star Wars. Indeed, wearing it now brings back vivid memories of that age of innocence. I was inspired and empowered. One thing led to another and soon my allowance money was shared between the record store and perfume counter. My botttle lasted until 1984 and I moved on to bigger things.

The vintage I discovered this summer was a splash and everything I remember. EA Fragrance is no friend of mine. The reformulation is peculiar. Its like a ghost of itself. Most of the ingredients are replaced by aromachemicals and the most obvious substitute is the lack of oakmoss, jasmine and sandalwood. Its sort of like Star Wars remastered. I am a purist and refuse changes of this sort. Its tricky but there are some bottles left floating around on e-bay, even cheaper than the imposter.

Cinnamon oakmoss 80s masterpiece
Whatever you do, if you plan on buying a bottle of Halston Z-14 please make sure it's a vintage bottle. The current version is nothing short of embarrassing. Thank you IFRA. I hope your building burns to the ground for what you people are doing to perfumery. Anywho i just picked up a vintage bottle of Z-14 and it's simply a masterpiece with that sharp cinnamony spicy opening. Lots of notes in this one and they all compliment each other beautifully. The sillage and longevity are fabulous. I swear i could rock this every day. I fondly remember my dad splashing this on back in the late 1970s and i fell in love right there. I really can not say enough about it except that the price for the vintage juice is well under $50!! Definitely a steal. If you are interested in anything made in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go the vintage route. IFRA be damned!!

Cinnamon, Spice And All Things Nice (Including The Price)...
Major thumbs up on vintage version of Z-14 from me. This is an excellent scent that belongs right beside the greats out of the mid 70s through the 80s. I get a very nice citrus and cinnamon opening, then the heart is a sublime herbal blend including basil and coriander (among others), mixing with jasmine, patchouli and more cinnamon (albeit a very subtle presentation of the cinnamon at this point), ending with a nice oak moss and leather base. Great stuff that is potent but quite smooth at the same time. I find Z-14 to have earned its superior reputation and it is an absolute classic. The other positive about vintage Z-14 is it is oh so inexpensive at about $20 for a large bottle... To me, this is blind buy worthy for sure (as long as you get vintage version that contains oak moss in its ingredients list on the box). I give this amazing smelling classic a strong 4 to 4.5 star rating out of 5.
