Brilliant Use of Lily-of the-Valley
Having recently discovered that it's lily-of-the-valley rather than lily that so often smells really awful to me, how odd to find it solidly in the middle of this haunting, primarily Jasmine scent, just arrived. First, I like the name (hubby has hands like Rodin and hair like Balzac in Rodin's famous bust of him). Okay, I might be biased, but not about this scent. Per the notes, Rodin is simplicity itself -- citrus, florals, musk. So, yes, it's not named after the sculptor, Rodin, but after Linda Rodin, legendary stylist cum skincare oil inventor. She's a New Yorker of my age who also refuses to die her grey hair, but looks snazzy and terrific anyway. She's full of energy and exudes elegance, like this to-die-for perfume. Someone suggested it for my Jasmine sniff fest a year ago and now I finally have it. Longevity is great. What's really impressive, though, is the perfect use of lily-of-the-valley, a strong, slightly greenish and potentially problematic note. As grounding for a familiar floral/citrus combo that could otherwise be too cloying, lily-of-the-valley shines here, adds complexity and depth, a welcome interest that makes this fragrance as smart and glamorous as its namesake. This is exactly the right way to use LOTV. So glad to have found Rodin. It's a treasure.
