In economics, this is referred to as the snob effect
What is the snob effect? The snob effect refers to abnormal behavior in the market regarding supply and demand in microeconomics. The rule is: when the price drops, demand increases and supply decreases. When the price rises, the opposite occurs. With the snob effect, demand increases with the price.
I can't explain Scandal and its popularity any other way.
About the scent:
It starts off slightly citrusy, with a bit of lavender. However, the dominant notes are the mossy spiciness and the somewhat old-fashioned floral aspect that define the fragrance.
It has a bit of a barbershop vibe from the time of grandfathers with their curled mustaches and suspenders. All in all, nothing special, and I would always prefer a Pour Monsieur or Eau Sauvage over this Roja. I have tested it several times now and have come to the conclusion that at €7/ml, I couldn't have burned my money any better.
Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of niche fragrances, especially when they are very unusual and original. Sometimes, it’s enough for me to simply do things better than the cheaper alternatives. Perfection also has its price, but at a certain price point, one can certainly speak of fanciful pricing.
Well, it’s not just the price that holds me back, as I would rather go out without perfume than wear this Roja.
So, an absolute disappointment from the house of Roja. If we translate the art of perfumery into culinary art, Scandal for me is the currywurst adorned with gold leaf.
I’m done.

Amusing. Chanel pour Monsieur is also a nice scent; I only know the Cologne from Scandal and find that boring too.
