Irrelevant!
S-ex opens as a rather mild sort of heavily synthetic musk-leather scent on the “bright” vinyl side, unexpectedly quite much similar to Etienne Aigner Black, just a bit more sweet and flowery. That same sort of plastic leather-musk-violet blend with a mainstream feel (which means partially “cheap”, partially “crowd-pleasing”). Smoky, spicy, smooth and gentle but “masculine” as regards of the mood, as much pleasant as frankly uninspired for me, easily lost among dozens of similar cheap synthetic leather scents – as I said, by mentioning leather I mean “polished”, PU-like leather, so don’t think of any Knize and similar (rather as I said, think of Aigner Black if you know it; this is really, really similar to it for me – except for the strength and the price, and guess who’s cheaper and less pretentious). I honestly don’t get half of the notes listed, to me this is just a crippled, barely enjoyable mixture of leather aromachemicals plus musky-floral ones and spices, and that’s it. A smooth skin scent lacking in pretty much anything you could expect, with an intolerably short persistence. The whiff of synthetic breezy “ozone” surely echoes Comme des Garçons offerings as well, just with way less creativity and interest. I can’t see reason to own this, but give it a try (be reminded to be really quick).

Sex or Eroticism?
I won S-ex because I wrote the 10,000th comment on parfumo - a heartfelt thank you to the donor! It goes without saying that I should write at least a few lines about it - although, there’s really nothing essential to add to the informative comment and the good fragrance description of my predecessor, a big compliment for that!

The name S-ex certainly arouses interest. Would it actually be a good idea to smell like sex? Or is that rather embarrassing? And aren’t perfumes that emphasize the erotic aura of the wearer much more exciting than those that focus purely on sex?

Let’s be clear: The currently not fully depicted narrow bottle has a large cream-colored, wobbly rubber cap. One isn’t quite sure whether to spray it or… uh… insert it.

The scent itself presents as a synthetic-fresh leather fragrance. The leather is supposed to underline a certain animality, but the synthetic-fresh components pull the scent in a rather modern and urban direction. It could have appeared in the Comme des Garcons collection!

There is indeed a similarity to Secretions Magnifiques by Etat Libre d‘Orange, although S-ex is still wearable, while SM only has its justification as a party joke. There are strange hints of the smell of sperm in both perfumes, but it is the pronounced leather note in S-ex that graciously covers this up. And as a bright leather scent, S-ex can certainly hold its own in a conventional environment.

There are several bright leather fragrances. I don’t find S-ex bad, but as always, the better is the enemy of the good. On the one hand, Mark Birley with its hints of carrot seed, fennel, and absinthe is much more exciting. And the fresh leather scent Psychotrope by Pierre Guillaume is truly erotic - but perhaps that’s not what S-ex wants to be at all.

Rubber Nun
Applying the standards of old styles to new phenomena can lead to mistakes.
Using the standards of German Classicism on the works of Sturm und Drang
simply does not do justice to the latter.
But what does justice even mean...
One cannot perceive the qualities of the new through the judgment filter of outdated standards.
It is as if one cuts off the difference like in a Procrustean bed
and then concludes: Nothing that wasn't already better before.

That the new is oriented towards the old, that it quotes the old, that it uses echoes of the past
should be self-evident, but it (not always)
produces an element (of the new) that cannot be found in the "old manner".

If the name of this perfume makes sense, then in my humble opinion it is because:

Not the collective of the creaturely sexual but the transfer
the "rescue" of this characteristic into the constructively mechanical.
So, to "port" the creature's desire into the machine (here I refer to the thoughts of an acquaintance, borrowing from someone else's feathers.)

All that I perceive here is of synthetic nature.
Metallic-harsh floral, somewhat melon-like, bright but cold sweet at first.
Cool artificial leather remains cool on the skin throughout.

S-EX should not be confused with sexy:
- Sex can be a process reduced to purely physical aspects.
- Sex is the mechanics/hydraulics of the juices.
- Androgynous sex for latex fetishists.
- Sex as a fetish
- Sex with rubber dolls/dildos
- Sex with completely shaved Barbie dolls,
whose only bodily fluid seems to be mineral water.

… Y-e-s, please!
The two fragrance creations "S-Perfume" and "S-ex" were once part of an art installation by New York sculptor Nobi Shioya about the Seven Deadly Sins. It is said that the audience of that exhibition was so fascinated by the scents that Shioya, better known in the scene as "Sacré Nobi," decided to have the fragrances produced in a small series.

The fragrance duo developed by Morillas and Laudamiel is supposed to (according to the PR text) bridge the gap between the classic perfume art of France and modern contemporary art.

After my truly traumatic encounter with "Sécrétions Magnifiques," I have become cautious with experimental perfumes, especially when they have the theme of sex on their banner.

Fortunately, "S-ex" was not entirely unknown to me during testing; I had had it sitting in my cabinet for quite a while and had previously tested it briefly. Leather fragrances, of which this one is a part, are generally not my thing, with a few exceptions. Moreover, I remembered that "S-ex" had been infused with a good portion of aquatic melon aroma (Calone), a note that repulses me harshly in most perfumes.

However, during my test, I experienced a real surprise: "S-ex" is really good... and I mean really good! In the top note, I smell the sweetness of berries and the aforementioned, but this time well-measured melon aroma. It flows seamlessly into the animalistic and leathery. It is a special kind of leather, one that I have not encountered in perfumes before. At first, it is cool and rough, then, after it has taken on body heat, soft and like a second skin.

On the test strip, "S-ex" is a faceless sludge, but on the skin, it is an absolute spectacle! Wearers of not-so-easily obtainable eaux (or those that want to be) should definitely keep this in mind when testing.

No Clue About Tooting and Blowing
What does sex smell like? Everyone has a different idea of it, and that's why I personally find it bold to name a fragrance that way. Does sex still sell? It depends on how subtly or bluntly the supposedly hot topic is interpreted.

In contrast to ELdO, this brand has managed a bit better to translate a coital variant into a fragrance. At least it feels relatively clean here.

The secret lies in the combination of fresh notes with a good dose of leather. It feels more sultry than sleazy, but it also doesn’t have the touch of a boring floral number.

But why am I being so blunt about sex? I really have no clue about tooting and blowing.

Oh yes, the stopper of the bottle feels like an empty breast implant.

Not sex in the conventional sense, more like cuddling tightly on a freezing cold concrete beam; quite fresh, absolutely unisex.
