Cheap fragrance with a backstory
You can buy the fragrance here for under 15€ and I got it because I was interested in Tom Ford Noir EdP but didn't want to spend the money on this one. Private Black was listed among the similarly scented fragrances.
Thought you can't go wrong for the money and promptly ordered it.
In fact, I was quite enthusiastic about the fragrance at first. Very multifaceted and you can really smell a lot more than is indicated in the fragrance notes. Basically, I haven't really smelled anything like this before and looking back I can say that this fragrance led me into the somewhat niche world of perfumes. But that was ultimately its downfall. Compared to more expensive fragrances, Private Black smells somehow ''cheap''. Cheap in the sense of: You can smell that there are simply no high-quality, let alone noteworthy, natural ingredients in it. But we're also talking about a fragrance for under €15.
Does it have any similarities to Tom Ford? Indeed it does. But not as much as I had initially hoped. I would still classify them both in a similar fragrance family. But it's definitely not a dupe.
In the end, I bought the ''original'' by Tom Ford and the more I smelled it, the more I disliked Private Black. There's just something unrounded and synthetic about Private Black and my dog always sneezed a lot when I sprayed it on. Not a good sign in my opinion.
All in all, however, a well-made fragrance for the price.
