Oud is not just Oud
I have noticed this more than once, as I have encountered several Oud fragrances over the past 16 months. Some of them are beautiful, while others are absolutely unacceptable to me.
Oud, the agarwood, is - as I recently learned - the result of a defensive or healing reaction of the agar tree. And only from the small piece of agarwood that forms in the tree with the help of fungi is the Oud oil extracted that is used in perfumery. In Asia, for example, agarwood is used when receiving guests; a small piece of agarwood is lit as a welcome gesture, smoldering and spreading a wonderful fragrance.
However, I am waiting in vain for this pleasant scent with this fragrance. It starts off as resinous-spicy as Ambre Rose and Deva des Fleurs. Then the scent becomes slightly greenish floral and remains that way until it disappears, which unfortunately happens quite quickly with Oudh Jasmin. What remains is a faint, slightly resinous scent until it completely fades away.
What a pity, I was very curious about a jasmine-oud variant, but Oudh Jasmin denies me this experience.
