Olfactory Border Experience

This legendary aftershave - Pitralon F, contains vitamin F, which disinfects and simultaneously refreshes shaved skin - has yet to receive a review here. That needs to change. On one hand, it is drugstore merchandise, but on the other hand, it is also niche, as you can only get it in the Czech Republic. And in online drugstores that also ship to Germany. Price: About € 3.

The Pitralon from the legendary "Fairy Tale Prince" of the EAV ("...wrapped in a cloud of Pitralon ... when you smell like a polecat") comes in dozens of variants, as the Wikipedia entry indicates. The brand name was never protected, which is why it is unclear who is still close to the original. Parfumo lists, as far as I can see, 11 Pitralons alone. Pitralon Classic is the German standard variant, the Swiss swear by Pitralon After Shave, the Croatians have their own version called "Ralon" - and the Czechs have their "Pitralon F | Schicht / Spolpharma". That is what this is all about.

How did I come to this: I am a member of a shaving forum. In that context, I met with a colleague some time ago, we talked about Pitralon in its various variants... and he said that the Czech one was by far the most intense. He had a bottle for direct sampling. How should I put it... the stuff blew me away. I had never encountered anything like it before. So offbeat that you absolutely have to have it.

I have already posted the report there, and I am making it accessible to a wider audience here.

The scent development is always of interest here. So much: "Pitralon F | Schicht / Spolpharma" has one, and a proper one at that.
The top note hits you first with: alcohol. And not in small amounts. Then come intense notes of gasoline, a bit of the toilet cleaner that was used about 40 years ago in my childhood, and, if I’m not mistaken, a hint of pineapple.
Heart note: This is how I imagine the smell in a war hospital, trying to cover up other scent notes. A bit of something sweeter comes through, reminiscent of Nivea cream.
Base note: What remains is a mix of incense and baby powder.

You really have to experience this stuff yourself. Just this much: I am sure that THIS is an aftershave that will really turn heads.

A few more pieces of information that I researched with translation help from the Czech internet: Pitralon was introduced in the 1920s in the Czech Republic and was initially widespread under the original formula. The expression "He smells like Pitralon" (Czechs, please correct me) is still common today for annoying chatterboxes. After the war, under Eastern Bloc conditions, the company Setuza was granted the rights to the Pitralon formula from a confiscated German company by the state. Allegedly, only after the change did vitamin F (to my knowledge, nothing more than fatty acid) get added to the formula, which is said to be good for the skin. And: Pitralon is also popular with the Czech military. The alcohol is, unlike in most other aftershaves, not denatured. It mixes well with fruit juice for a discreet drink.

Conclusion: More than borderline. And thus: unfortunately awesome.
