Messy wood
I once received a souvenir from – I think – Morocco, it was a big heavy wood dice with an irresistible, sharp smell of raw cedar wood which lasted for years. This fragrance by Sentifique quite captures that smell, sadly drowning it into an unnecessary massive synthetic-smelling feel halfway pepper, plastic, rubber, wet grass and stale water. Try to imagine a bridge between traditional woody fougères and cheap Axe deodorants. Which I guess is how my nose decodes that oud note or accord, as indeed I do smell also something rubbery and “dark woody”. It’s not a “fecal” scent or anything heavy, so don’t think of other ouds; actually it’s a really mild scent, but still I do get a stale feel which I really find just both out of place here, and plain off-putting. And I am not even sure whether if may due to oud, as actually it’s more a “synthetic” stale feel, like in really (really!) cheap woody scents. It’s not a “barn” note, rather some moldy plastic thing left rotting somewhere in the woods after a storm – that’s the kind of “stale” I am talking about. This whole sort of bad-smelling cheap woody accord is negatively enhanced by citrus, which adds a pungent-astringent feel to it. Anyway, among all of this, if you inspire with attention you’ll get a really beautiful, solid and realistic cedar note – one of the nicest I’ve ever smelled. Sharp, wild and aromatic. What a shame you’ve to dig for it. Feels like plunging your arm into a poorly-sanitized crapper to retrieve a gold ring. Not an entirely tragic fragrance after all, but surely kind of messy and to me, fairly cheap (especially on the drydown, which is definitely on the cheap “cloying woody deodorant” side).

Don't Pee from the Poolside!
Aquatic 2%??? I'm really flipping out here.
If there's anything about wood in the pyramid, the scent has to be woody. It has to be. It's right there.
What a load of crap. This is an aquatic as described in the book of pool management.
Cedar, yes; but definitely not sacred. Super sweet!
Vanillin has been splashing in from the start. Frankincense is stuck in the super slide and oud has no seahorse and therefore has to stay in the shallow end.
All in all, a perfume for tanned, pot-bellied sugar daddies at the kiddie pool, optionally in front of the Hansa Pils kiosk.

Who Finds the Grail?
Why is everyone suddenly embracing purism? Less can be more, but it doesn't have to be. To be honest, I now wish for more complexity in fragrances - I have an idea of cedarwood as a scent note, and I believe it demands to be integrated into a classic fragrance progression.

With some reluctance, I take a look at Cèdre Sacré. It is all too easy for representatives of this direction to be dismissed as just one among many. You really have to look closely to uncover the individual qualities of Cèdre Sacré - but they are there!

In general, the new woody fragrances celebrate a particularly austere form of masculinity, making them almost unbearable for women. This does not apply to Cèdre Sacré. While a green-bitter woodiness undoubtedly dominates, an interesting attempt has been made here to soften and distort it.

A certain freshness is initially brought by the citrus note, which, as is natural, does not last long. Then the incense comes into play. Contrary to its oriental and pretentious image, I often perceive incense in perfumes as a real slimming agent. It adds depth, a certain gray, subdued, pale side that gives the fragrance a somewhat elevated character. Without becoming intrusive, the incense refines the wood note that is the focus here.

Furthermore, I might perceive a very slight aromatic note in the background, as well as very restrained mild, creamy aspects and a very muted, almost aquatic freshness. If I'm not imagining it, all of this could come from the musk corner. I do not smell oud.

The incense can stay, but please less bitter, green wood and a bit more of everything else - then I might like Cèdre Sacré. In its current form, it is a bit too bitter for me to wear on my skin for several hours. I do enjoy smelling something like this on others.

It is indeed interesting to follow the different approaches to woody purism. You really have to try hard to grasp these fragrances. I have the impression that they all circle around the holy grail, but it has not yet been found.

I can't warm up to it!
This fragrance contains only notes that I normally like, according to the pyramid. Well, lemon peel isn't exactly at the top of my popularity scale, but the rest is totally my thing.

Like the three companions, the sacred cedar is also very well composed, and I now have the impression that fragrances with a reduced scent progression are the trademark of Scentifique. Except for the lemon peel, all notes here also persist until the dry down.

But Cèdre Sacré makes me lament at a high level, because the scent does not evoke any enthusiasm in me.

If I had to assign an attribute to the fragrance, it would be clinically cool!

What does it want, some might think, he usually likes that. But I simply miss something edgy, something rough here. CS feels almost smooth and distant despite the coolness.

The scent accord is smoky cold, soberly woody, and a medicinal oud note also allows for clinical scent impressions.

I can't help it, but I just can't warm up to this fragrance.

Whether it's due to the currently damp and cold weather here or to me, I can't say, because it should actually appeal to me quite a bit.

CS is a fragrance that I would definitely find super on others, but unfortunately it doesn't suit me.

Very helpful Review 10
more on the outside than on the inside
For my skin and perfume, the majority of cases follow this rule: What’s on the outside is what’s on the inside.
In other words: What the pyramid lists usually finds its way back to my skin, married to the scent.
Not always, not everything, but mostly it holds true.
With the fragrances from Sentifique, it seems to be different - after "Dangereuse," I am now experiencing for the second time a significantly greater olfactory richness than the rather limited ingredient list of "Cèdre Sacré" would suggest.

Even before the officially declared top note appears, I am greeted immediately after spraying with a deep-spicy-warm accord that has been very familiar to me since "Molecule 02," which I also noticed in "Dangereuse" and referred to as "ambroxanic" there.
While this component only subtly makes its presence felt in the dangerous sister and hints at a dark secret, the ambroxanic note of the sacred cedar is distinctly perceptible on my skin throughout the entire scent progression and initially enters into a brief liaison with the very bright, almost piercing lemon, only to soon part ways and find a much more harmonious, sensual partner in the dark, dry cedar that lacks the usual pencil note.
At this stage, my nose is glued to my wrist, and if "Cèdre Sacré" were to remain unchanged, I would be happy to add another fragrant gem to my collection.
However, while many fragrances become even more beautiful and irresistible as they dry down, I experience rather a dampening in the further development of "Cèdre Sacré": It may be due to the African frankincense, which is unfamiliar to my nose, that, in conjunction with the extremely subdued and not at all medically strict oud, does not present itself as cool-smoky or sacred, but rather reminds me of the dry smoke of a wood fire, leading "Cèdre Sacré" to develop into a - forgive me! - somewhat nondescript men’s fragrance after several hours of wear on my skin, despite all its spiciness.
Still pleasant, still very wearable - but not as sensational and different as I would have expected after the first few hours.

If you need to descale your coffee machine, I can highly recommend "Cedre Sacre"! It smells like "Pure Citric Acid" from Heitmann!

This high-caliber newcomer drowns the cedarwood with its overdose of lemon peel. With a bit of goodwill, you can still catch a trace ...

Very pleasant woody scent! Soft, slightly sweet & fresh, fragrant and therefore easy to wear. Not a walking wardrobe, but pleasantly masculine.

Citrusy cedar in silvery incense, oud - no. A cool, distant scent, but noble and refined. I would wear it as a woman too.
