Floral Inertia
Oh dear, I admit that floral fragrances have a hard time with me. No, I am by no means a sea of flowers romantic; perfumes of this kind practically overwhelm me. The floral accents must be very moderate and less pronounced in the top notes, ideally blended with other stronger base notes, for me to even tolerate them in my microcosm.
Unfortunately, Daylily belongs to the category of floral fragrances that hardly leaves me any room to breathe due to its rather strong floral note(s), although it is not as sweet in the opening as I had feared beforehand. Quite the opposite - as expressive and true-to-nature as the base note of the namesake flower is, the house's characteristic earthy base components are also present here (mossy, damp, boggy), which benefits Daylily. Nevertheless, I find it rather monotonous when viewed as a whole. Its bouquet is not particularly exciting, as the basic DNA of the house is widely known and has consequently slowly lost its *uniqueness*. In return, Daylily impresses with its naturalness; thus, it stands out positively from the cheaper representatives of its kind from drugstore chains; for here, the flower stems were processed along with the soil. The seasoned olfactory enthusiasts out there will likely find this insufficient as a reason to buy, as the performance is too straightforward and unremarkable, especially considering the proud mL price that has been declared.
I also consider it a bold move to list it as unisex on parfumo, even if it shows a certain heaviness and depth here and there. However, I simply lack the belief that I could really wear it as a man. At least, I can't think of an appropriate occasion. No, in my eyes, it is not unisex and if anything, it is suitable for a woman's evening attire, and even here, it doesn't quite appeal to me! To be honest, I do not want to share and enjoy it with anyone, no matter how seemingly well it may appear in execution.
I cannot name many pleasing alternatives, as I am not well-versed in the floral (niche) world. That HoM indeed offers more interesting floral alternatives has been proven in the past with Forbidden, which provided a far more exciting play of aromas.
Much more spectacular is the longevity, as it really packs a punch: Daylily lasts a good 7-9 hours on my skin. This should be mentioned positively at this point.
