classic masculine soapy clove
Gianni Campagna is a Milanese luxury menswear tailor, also known for the perfume brand Domenico Caraceni - both extremely expensive, with a good eye for PR, although not crafted at the level of the great Italian masters (like the Roman A. Caraceni). With the Caraceni and Campagna fragrances, they presumably aimed for a broader appeal. The manufacturer was the Milanese company Forester, known for high quality (and now seemingly on the verge of extinction), which produced perfumes for Czech & Speake for a long time, as well as Washington Tremlett.
Unfortunately, the marketing has always been a bit clumsy, and the Campagna fragrance line quietly disappeared from the scene - instead, a Terre d'Hermes clone was launched under the name. I have never understood why these fragrances were linked in PR to memory places of Signore Campagna, instead of connecting them as a tailor to appropriate sartorial associations and the gentlemen's lifestyle. Because Scilla, for example, has little olfactory connection to Sicily and much to traditional men's fragrances. The centerpiece is a soapy, floral-tinged clove, ornamented by a no less classic aromatic-citrus top note, as well as some wood and spicy Christmas notes (nutmeg, vanilla). Spicy Fougère! A very successful composition all in one, overall conservative-traditionalist and for me clearly in a masculine tradition line. It calls for a good suit.
By the way, Vento Canale from this line was the best sweet pipe tobacco scent of all time!
