Atelier Cologne introduced me to extremely natural and very authentic citrus scents over 3 years ago. I quickly became enamored with Orange Sanguine and Grand Neroli. During that summer, I couldn't get enough of them, and they often served as head-kiss fragrances. To this day, I find the scents of this brand very beautiful, but often too mono or one-dimensional, which has led to a steady decline in my interest as a complete perfume.
Since then, I have been on the lookout for a citrus scent that offers me more. Fragrances like Eau Sauvage, Chanel Allure Edition Blanche, and Acqua Viva have never really found favor with my fickle nose and had to leave after the summer. Dior Homme Cologne is the only scent in this segment that I remain loyal to; I just find it somehow sexy.
Dior Homme Cologne can look forward to company in the fragrance cabinet, as I believe I have found a second fantastic citrus scent in Blood Orange.
Blood Orange is simply amazing. The zesty mix of grapefruit, oranges, and blood oranges can captivate from the very first spray. It rivals my freshly squeezed vitamin C bomb from yesterday. I would even go so far as to say that Blood Orange smells even better. I don't know which fragrance notes are responsible for this, but "dasguteleben" mentioned in one of his recent comments something about secondary and tertiary aromas, which typically occur in natural scents, and I suspect the same here. This means that the fragrance likely consists of additional notes that are not listed here. Or it could be the aroma from the 0.5 kg of oranges that are supposedly processed here. But probably with the peel, as I can sniff out fresh, sweet, and at the same time slightly bitter aromas.
I can detect amber slightly in the background, more of an unsweetened variant. The musk is in a radiant form, cozy but not like laundry detergent. I can't detect any leather; if anything, there are very light woods... but that is more of a guess and inferred than truly recognized. Only in the base, which is reached after about 60 minutes, can I detect something like a woody hint that hovers over the fruits.
The longevity is truly top-notch for this fragrance direction, lasting around 6 hours for me. The sillage is strong only in the first half hour, but then remains clearly above skin-close.
I suspect that this scent truly blossoms on sun-warmed skin, opening up and releasing new facets and aromas. I am incredibly curious to see how it behaves when the sun kisses the skin for the first time in May. But even now, Blood Orange boosts my mood and provides a wonderful feeling.
For me, one of the most beautiful scents in this segment, and at this more than fair price, you can't go wrong at all. Layering with Molecule01 should yield interesting results;-)!
I can definitely smell the smooth leather (unfortunately). There’s depth and a bit of masculinity, but often I just wish for that pure, realistic blood orange. The leather won’t work at 30 degrees either. It’s a shame that the other scents from the brand I know don’t come across as realistically as this one. AC has more variety.
Could become my favorite orange scent...
