Smells like church pews

I don't headline this in a negative way at all. I love the way this smells. It's a scent for you alone as it does not project at all. Although if you have someone lying on your chest they would enjoy it. I understand why some people say they get nose blind. It is subtle and one minute you smell it the next you don't. It's not mind blowing but you can tell its smooth and well compiled. The big problem is, just like oud wood from TF it just doesn't last and yet again the price just does not rectify the performance. I can't afford to keep spraying this over and over again. I'm very sure other perfume houses could make the same thing but make it last. Out of all the RD creations Amber Aoud is still the only one that has great projection, sillage and longevity. It's such a shame ?

Kind sentiment from a wonderful fragrance

The Biblical history of King David was on this wise - before he was anointed king over israel the young man David stepped up to take on Goliath when nobody else would. And when David was brought to King Saul, before battle, King Saul fit him with his own suit of armor. Young David found that the armor was ill-fitting, and rejected it.

David found that the armor wasn't fitting for him, but it's the complete opposite for me with Musk Aoud as far as wearing fragrance. Musk Aoud is so... "me"

The slot for my second all-time favorite fragrance would be a difficult pick between Roja Parfums Musk Aoud, and Creed Windsor

Quality scent

I love aoud and add musk to it, wow, simply gorgeous combo. This is a bit skanky at first, but then the dry down is absolutely wonderful. I would wear this during winter or fall and on special occasions. Love it.

I already wrote a review on Amber Aoud and since I also own a bottle of this fragrance I want to report my experience. Unlike Amber Aoud, this time I own the crystal parfum version but also tested the normal one.

First things first, to my nose the crystal version smells exactly the same as the normal parfum version. If someone tests both versions side by side and notices any differences, it's more likely due to different stages of maturation than due to the scent itself. Also the performance is the same but I'll get to this later.

Musk Aoud was released in 2013 being the last part of a trio. Aoud came first in 2011, followed by Amber Aoud in 2012. Whereas you could consider Aoud the classical Rose-Oud-Saffron combination, Amber Aoud was sweeter and more mass-appealing because it softened rough edges occurring in the original Aoud. Musk Aoud took a very different approach by adding a natural musk note coming from Ambrette seeds rather than an animal. Due to the musk note as well as nutmeg, oud and jasmine the fragrance is definitely more animalic than the other two of the trio. Especially in the opening (first 5 mins), the fragrance might be too animalic for some noses. However, interestingly the fragrance is not stinky at all, especially after the first 5 mins are gone. I even find the original Aoud more stinky than Musk Aoud, although I wouldn’t call Aoud stinky as well. I guess it's the rose and leather note getting more prominent and contributing to keeping the fragrance in balance.

To really appreciate the fragrance you have to get through the opening minutes and afterwards the smell is one of the most sexiest, intoxicating and just somewhat interesting one could imagine. All in all, the scent drys down to a base more similar to Amber Aoud. I slightly prefer Amber Aoud but only by centimeters or inches.

It is no secret that Roja uses very fine materials and luxury packaging resulting in luxury prices (720€/100ml) and this one is no different.

Considering performance, as I said, there's no difference between the crystal and the normal parfum. The scent lingers for around 3 hours, not shouting but also not close. Afterwards it gets closer to the skin and stays there until the 8 hour mark. Honestly, I expected and hoped for a little better performance from a fragrance of this category and price tag, but maybe it's just my skin or the fragrance has to maturate a little more.

Sexy, sensual, erotic, mysterious, animalic, sweet, naughty

Musk Aoud is one of my favorite Rojas from Aoud Collection and it has a very special place in my heart since it was my first scent from Roja Parfums. I bought it blindly and its enchantment has never faded. The color of this crystal cap is the most gorgeous of all! I think that this scent is totally underrated but I understand that it's not so easy to wear for many.

I can’t get enough of this deep and complex scent. It's so sexy, sensual, erotic and mysterious. It's slightly animalic woody musky juice which is blended into perfection like all perfumes from Roja. You have to like oud and musk but it is not so challenging which you could think. The aroma of the scent is Roja's sophisticated and classy style without any roughness or pungent and brash nuances. Musk and Oud are not edgy here but noticeable ones and appropriately naughty but so pleasant in the same time. This will grow on you easily. Flowers play a supporting role in this fragrance rather than bringing a really floral aspect to it. After this settles down it turns so soft, a little bit powdery and a little bit sweet. It’s like the sexy smell of the skin! Vanilla, Nutmeg, Ambrette and Tonka they each bring their own "neutral" and natural sweetness to the fragrance, without being in any way comparable to sugary sweetness. The spiciness is really soft, and it doesn't remind of any food because the traditional oriental spices are missing. One note which can be challenging for me is leather but I never have that problem with Roja's style to do it. Everything in this is so polished.

This is totally unisex since it doesn’t have so obvious “man” or “woman” characteristics. There is a little difference in the opening between dark and crystal juice but after 10 minutes those are totally same. The difference can be as well because of the age of the bottles. The longevity is eternal. I simply love this, I can't praise it enough and I need to add a big bottle of dark one as well. So sad that this is discontinued. Again one Roja's scent which doesn't have any similar competitor in the market.
