A few weeks ago, I was at my trusted drugstore to pick up some of my "essentials." I briefly browsed through the perfume shelves, without the intention of buying any of them. Relatively randomly, I applied the scent "Spirit of white vanilla" to my wrist, but then immediately put it back and didn’t pay it any further attention. Since I had rather bad experiences with this brand in the past, especially with "Spirit of fizzy tangerine," I honestly didn’t have high expectations for the scent, which is why I didn’t even take the time to sniff it properly in the store (apparently, I still wanted to give myself and Spirit another chance).
Once home, while continuing to write one of my assignments, I finally noticed the scent positively - yes, I liked what I smelled. This fragrance lingered on my wrist all day, so that it was still noticeable even after washing my hands. I was annoyed that I hadn’t taken some time to sniff it in DM. A few days later, I went back to the drugstore to buy the bottle and lo and behold: all sold out. Long story short, it took at least another two weeks before I could finally find and then purchase this scent at a Müller.
Once home with the fragrance, I had to test it again right away. To my shock, however, I was a bit disappointed by the scent this time. Was my anticipation in vain? Did I just inhale my wrist incessantly to procrastinate, to avoid my work? Or am I already suffering from memory loss?
Spirit of white vanilla is definitely not a bad scent. In my opinion, it has very little to do with vanilla. The white floral bouquet and the musk are particularly prominent for me. Only a hint of coconut and peach comes through. However, the second time around, it comes across as a bit "stale," almost a little flat. I have no idea how else to describe it. It is still not offensive or alcoholic, just a bit different from how it originally registered in my memory. While it is cozy, it also feels a bit serious and quite linear on me. When I smell this fragrance, I think of a library: a friendly middle-aged librarian appears before my eyes. I find libraries and books wonderful, yet the scent hasn’t completely captivated me so far.
I don’t regret buying it, as it was quite affordable and the longevity of the scent is impressive. However, I might have "hyped" it more due to my marginal memory than it is, in my current opinion, worth. Whether I will reach for another Spirit fragrance in the future remains to be seen.
