Vanilla for Angels?

When I hear "Vangelis," I immediately think of the Greek composer.
However, "Chariots of Fire" or "Conquest of Paradise" don't come to mind right away.
Although the latter is likely known even to non-music lovers thanks to the gentleman boxer Henry Maske; how often did he enter the boxing ring to these sounds!
That was, of course, "great cinema" for the eyes and ears back then!
And it still sends shivers down the spine today!
When I think of Vangelis, I rather recall his composition "Mythodea"; beautifully sung by soprano Kathleen Battle and the great Jessye Norman, accompanied by a powerful choir.
This piece was recorded in connection with NASA's Mars mission "Mars Odyssey" in 2001, and a CD of it was sent into space.
What a fantastic idea for a fantastic piece of music!

But upon closer examination and acquaintance with Sylvaine Delacourte's vanilla collection, I notice that all these fragrances carry a "Va-" - likely for vanilla - in their names.
Is "Valkyrie" perhaps a praise of vanilla; could "Vangelis" mean "vanilla for angels"?

I must say, this explanation for this almost indescribably beautiful scent pleases me much more.
And which angel wouldn't appreciate the Madagascar vanilla we already know, accompanied by black pepper and cardamom, with more than just a nose full?
If you then add the clove, originally from the tropics, and the "completely ordinary," yet improbably aromatic garden carnation, the senses begin to dance quietly with excitement.
Clementine and bitter almond blend very well here and harmonize with the previous scent progression. The jasmine, with its heavy, slightly decaying fragrance, actually crowns this composition. "Vangelis" could be finished here!
But that's not the case: the ever-beloved sandalwood gift, once again introduced with great sensitivity, makes the spicy scent mélange vibrate softly; it becomes alive and slightly seductive.

"Vangelis" is also one of those almost ethereal scent webs, where the vanilla delights with an unexpectedly transparent quality.
Where it usually dominates robustly, warmly, and always with a slight eroticism, here it clearly takes a step back and plays perfectly in the circle of other fragrance notes to my delight.
The resulting composition is also not very long-lasting; but it delights with its protective fragrance.
Like fine lace, "Vangelis" envelops and conveys comfort. Not just to oneself, but also to the surroundings. They are usually pleasantly touched by the delicate scent.
Thus, this "angelic vanilla" is a beautiful example of how quickly a preconceived opinion can change.

The five fragrance samples from Sylvaine Delacourte's vanilla collection (my thanks to Alöx for this) have taught me that vanilla scents do not always have to be opulent and powerful.
They can also appear as a finely crafted piece of jewelry.
It is wonderful that both variants have found their place in our world of fragrance.

It's probably not the case that the initials "Va" necessarily refer to vanilla, since a fragrance also starts with "Vi." It connects a person with the name. I found this explanation at my trusted perfume dealer:
"The meeting with Vangelis in a magnificent palace in Rajasthan, India. Mysterious and enchanting, he wears a colorful turban on his head and drinks spiced chai tea." The only scent in the series that I can perceive on myself for longer - lovely!

"From the soprano Kathleen Battle and the great Jessye Norman" - that sounds a bit spiteful towards the diva.

Unfortunately, the pepper in Vangelis clogged my nose. What I could sense behind the pepper probably would have pleased me.

I can't say much about this extraordinary series yet, but I can imagine that this one would suit me best. And you might be right about the "Va"! Very well described and Va trophy!

Henry Maske: Wow! Those were the days!
If only he knew he was mentioned in a perfume comment!
But it doesn't sound like this scent is going to knock you out.
Oh dear! You're the one responsible for that earworm tonight.

Great comment! And you're probably spot on with your explanation for the name.
