Oddly Familiar and Disconcerting
A fragrance that is supposed to evoke the scents that one experiences during an alien abduction. Apparently the artist behind "The Eyes Are Always There," Joe Merrell, did extensive research to interview people who claimed to have been abducted by aliens and combined their accounts into this perfume. I don't believe that anyone has actually been abducted by aliens, but I think that the perfumer, Christopher Gordon, did an outstanding job in creating a foreboding, disconcerting scent that very well could be what an alien vessel might smell like.
On first blast, there is some sweet spice that could be cinnamon or clove, and then the main body of the fragrance enters, which is a very well done "damp" accord that smells like wet concrete or cardboard. It's a scent that you swear you've smelled somewhere before but can't quite place it. It's not quite a pleasant smell, which is what makes the fragrance a little eerie and disquieting. There is a bit of sour metals mixed in, which we can take to be the smell of the interior of the alien ship, and the ozonic notes make the scent light and transparent.
All in all, worth a try if you are fascinated, as I am, by perfumery-as-art. Very interesting premise and excellent execution, if a little weak on performance.
