Arethusa Tiziana Terenzi 2014

What should I write about Arethusa? According to Greek mythology, she was the daughter of Nereus, who transformed into a river to escape the gaze of Alpheios, who had fallen in love with her after seeing her bathing naked (of course…). She re-emerged as a spring on the island of Ortigia. Apparently, she did not escape Alpheios after all, as Zeus took pity on him and also transformed him into a river so that he could merge with Arethusa as a spring (at least, if he found her…).

Now, with this background knowledge, imagine such a fragrance! Hehe, well, at least one can say that the scent smells fresh and therefore fits well with the idea of a fresh spring.

The fragrance:
Hmm, it starts sweet-citrusy with a sugared grapefruit, plum, and just a hint of fig. In the background, there is a slightly spicy ginger, which gradually becomes stronger over time. Despite the grapefruit and orange, the scent is never citrusy but remains sweet-spicy. This spicy-bitter impression persists, and now and then it even smells slightly bitter.
After this strong, but almost chaotic beginning (as many fragrance notes are working at the same time), you then smell green notes, but it remains sweet and also spicy.
I have difficulty separating the scents in the heart note. Jasmine can be easily detected, and perhaps rose as well, but the others create a nice, but not further definable scent.
Gradually, it becomes slightly stuffy, possibly caused by the many floral notes, but this impression quickly fades, and the floral notes recede more and more.
In the base, the scent becomes woodier and remains slightly spicy with very few fruity and sweet notes. A few hours later, you can also smell a bit of patchouli and vetiver, although very faintly.

Longevity and sillage:
The longevity is above average. The scent is detectable on the skin for eight hours; after that, it is still present, but so weak that you hardly notice it anymore.
The sillage is good, so you can smell it well from a distance without having to get too close. However, you shouldn't expect too large a scent cloud.

The bottle:
This bottle is also round or cylindrical and made in golden tones. It features a leather label on which the name of the fragrance is written in golden letters. The cap is also cylindrical and black.

The story of the spring on an island is well chosen. The scent really smells fresh and gives you a feeling as if you were hiking outdoors in a Mediterranean rural setting. All that’s missing are the crickets chirping in the grass, breaking the silence to make the incredible feeling perfect, while you are in a good mood but still melting under the blazing sun.

It is a fragrance that fits well in spring and summer but can also be worn in autumn. The scent can be worn by anyone, although the sweet beginning might still seem slightly feminine.

So,… now I’m going to google Arethusa, maybe there are enticing nude pictures by artists showing her bathing and such, hmm…. of course, just so I can see why Alpheios fell in love with her :D
