Unidentified Nostalgia
I’ve heard more than one reviewer on YouTube declare that there’s something nostalgic and familiar about their Gen X childhood to be found in Cleopatra but it’s not something they can specifically identify.
I think the strong notes of grapefruit, tuberose and sharp, clean patchouli were simply popular fragrance notes and what one might always smell in the shopping malls of that era - in potpourri, room sprays, body lotions, incense sticks and The Body Shop products.
I get the nostalgia as well, especially with this type of Patchouli. It seems that everyone was wearing Calvin Klein or Polo at the time, but if you didn’t you were on the artsy side and wore patchouli, or perhaps another Body Shop oil.
Unfortunately this nostalgic trinity of notes doesn’t last very long on me.
