The Promise of an Early Summer Day

"Salvia Sclarea" smells like a young morning in late spring or early summer, at the time when everything still seems possible and nothing is clouded, the air clear and everything dewy-fresh and sparkling, nothing is dried out or old, but dewy-fresh and enticing, the sun casting its shadows over the grass and nothing yet hinting at the symbolic shadows that a long day will inevitably cast somewhere along its course.

Aromatherapeutically, clary sage is attributed with antidepressant, calming, as well as invigorating and euphoric effects. The difference between it and true sage or medicinal sage Salvia officinalis is not insignificant. Both share a certain green herbaceousness, but while medicinal sage has a spicy-clear freshness, clary sage has a subtle warm sweetness that is also found in "Salvia Sclarea," making it suitable for lovers of green scents who do not prefer them too herbaceous or bitter. For that, "Salvia Sclarea" is far from.

Instead, one finds here a sparkling green freshness, velvety, bright and clear, full of stylish lightness and far removed from any herbaceous or medicinal associations.

However, the real star of "Salvia Sclarea" is, in my perception, not the clary sage, but actually the grass, lush, juicy grass, continuously present, perfectly complemented by the other fresh and green notes, rounded off with a completely weightless woodiness, beautifully... I would go so far as to call it the grass scent I have always been searching for!
