Musky Masculine Base

So in my review of Cartier Declaration I mentioned that I liked the musky masculine base but not the very prominent iris scent (I don't like iris on myself). I had hoped to find something similar without the iris.

A FB of 1920 has been sitting on my shelf for several months, a result of padding an order for free shipping. Imagine my surprise at first time try it. It is that Declaration masculine base without the iris. What I wanted was on my shelf all this time. Awesome!

To be clear, this is a cumin dominant fragrance. It's not, however, a BO sweaty armpit smell. The cumin is well blended with the other notes to make a really nice masculine fragrance that has zero sweetness and is very dry. Definitely not one for the cotton candy callants and bubblegum boys.

Regarding performance, I'd rate it as a strong EDT even though it's an EDP and does require more sprays. I gave myself 10 sprays. It gave good sillage and projection (about arms length) for about an hour and then retreated to a more intimate scent bubble. Longevity was about 8 hours on skin, longer on clothes.

Nice surprise for me and a good value. Glad I already have a FB.

Tous 1920 The Origin EDP - an inexpensive cumin scent that resembles Cartier Declaration

This review relies on a full bottle of Tous 1920 The Origin EDP that I bought from a US grey market sellers for $29. I use it infrequently because of the intense cumin note in the opening. Please note the EDT and EDP are very different, as the former is a cheap but serviceable blue scent.

Cumin is what The Origin EDP should be known as. I don’t pick up a lot of cardamom or bergamot in the opening, but these notes could have been submerged in the deluge of cumin. The cumin subsides when the heart notes emerge, but not completely gone. I perceive some new sweet notes in the heart notes, which could be the jasmine listed on Parfumo. But it is too weak and muddled to make a clear identification. If the perfumer had increased the intensity of the heart notes, it would have imparted a stronger better personality to this perfume. The base note and the ensuing dry down are nice with some mild but sweet woody notes. The main concern with The Origin EDP is that no note really stands out and stake a claim except the cumin.

Just as with The Origin EDT, the performance of the EDP falls short of what I would have liked. The dominant cumin note lasts on my skin is about four hours, but a little longer on my clothes. The sillage is serviceable for the first few hours. Unfortunately, the performance drops sharply after the first four hours. I have to reapply in a 5-6 hours to keep it going longer.

The similarity with Cartier Declaration is unmistakable. Though Declaration doesn’t list cumin as a note, the cardamom and vetiver in it appear as cumin to me. Declaration is a slightly better perfume than The Origin EDP but it costs more than double. Neither of these two perfumes fall in my top 100 perfumes, but they may be worth the space and money for a cumin aficionado.

Overlooked classic modern signature scent with insane PL ratio

The first review for TOUS: 1920 - THE ORIGIN is not one - and at the same time my very first. The circumstances arise from the fact that the number of characters for a statement would not have been enough and my astonishment that this 2017 fragrance until March 2021 has received almost no appreciation on this platform. All this does not change my inability to write about fragrances, which is why this typing can also not be an adequate appreciation.

TOUS I knew so far only through TOUS: MAN SPORT, and I appreciate it quite. The house: a Spanish jeweler, founded in 1920.
So this fragrance is the - somewhat premature - anniversary fragrance for the 100th birthday of his house. Accordingly, he comes in a classic presentation that awakens steampunk associations: matte olive outer box, gold-colored font, a font corresponding to the referenced time. The bottle is flat, with slightly sloping shoulders, divided into two parts, also in gold-colored, metallic-looking plastic, matching sprayer and cap. The upper half of green glass, in its overall appearance reminiscent of a schnapps bottle.

The fragrance is for me of surprising quality, not only considering its price of currently just over 20 euros - and it is an eau de parfum.
Jeweler, independent presentation, good fragrance, reasonable price - all this somehow reminds me of LALIQUE, right?

The opening has for me something of dry grapefruit (which is probably actually bergamot), paired with a paper note (but that's just me?), which is interestingly spicy in appearance at the same time. The black tea in the middle is reminiscent of BERDOUS: ASSAM OF INDIA, the woodier and very long finish (beat me - but I think I actually perceive it clearly for 8-10 hours) seems very rounded and gives the course a melange-like, worthy equivalent.

Yeah, I'm pretty wowed, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this either. I doubt that this fragrance is meant to recall or cite typical scents of the early 1920s - it seems far too modern for that. At the same time, it is classic and thoroughly masculine. Aside from great summer heat, I would ascribe it year-round wearability, and I can't think of a scenario in which it wouldn't be wearable. All of which probably makes it a signature scent candidate.
And as for summer: for this, the 2020 Eau de Toilette seems to lend itself, which I haven't heard of yet, but whose acquaintance I will very much welcome.

In short: The thing is, in my opinion, severely underestimated, unjustly overlooked and an absolute P / L recommendation!
