Mmm! Cinnamon Vanilla.
So, long story alert. Many years ago, I lived in a small Montana town with a western store/saddle shop. Kind of a boutique, with silk scarves, hand-tooled belts, hand-shaped hats, western-wear, etc. They also sold perfumes. I think they were all the Tru Fragrance brand. Gypsy Kiss was a signature of mine for a time. Anywho, I went into this store one year when my best friend (a real-deal Wyoming cowgirl) was in town. She wanted to do some Christmas shopping and loved the silk scarves sold in this little store. While she browsed scarves, I browsed the perfumes. Vaquera was a new addition. I spritzed it on my wrist. Smelled delicious. Warm brown-sugar vanilla with subtle spice. I didn't have the money to spend on myself at the time, so I didn't buy it. My friend and I went on about our day, visiting other friends in town, bar-hopping, getting "tuned up," laughing, loving, enjoying life.
Sadly, years later, my friend passed away. I miss her dearly every day. Often, when thinking of her, I can recall the scent of this perfume. It's vivid in my mind's eye. Over the years, I've randomly searched for it, hoping it would pop up on ebay, or anywhere online, but can never find it. Until . . . two weeks ago, I thought about Vaquera again. It means "cowgirl," by the way. I remembered the spicy vanilla cloud accompanying my friend and me on our adventures that day. It made me long for it again, so I opened ebay to run a search. Lo and behold! A bottle for sale! I clicked buy-it-now so fast it would make your head spin. Waited anxiously for it to arrive, nervous it wouldn't smell like I remembered or, god forbid, the bottle had spoiled. When it came, I ripped open the package, popped the cap, and spritzed. All the memories came flooding back! It smells exactly the same as it did that Christmas so many years ago, spent in the company of my best friend. In fact, I think it smells better because I have missed it so much. That's the back story.
As for the scent, if you are a fan of brown-sugar, slightly burnt vanilla, spices, warm, jammy citrus -- this is your jam! Smells amazing and lasts for ages. I have never found a scent quite like it. It's very hard to find, but not impossible. I will cherish this bottle! Puts me in such a nostalgic mood.
