Opening: 1980s toys | Drydown: Grown up fruitchouli
There is this crazy contradictory thing that happens here in the online perfume community: either people are seeking out artificially fruity scents that recall childhood relics or they’re seeking authenticity that places them squarely in the middle of a berry patch. It seems as if there is no one who enjoys both. I cannot accept that as truth as I enjoy both kinds of scents. Being a child of the 1980s I had a collection of Strawberry Shortcake dolls, fruit-scented erasers, scratch-and-sniff stickers and other doodads scented with plasticized fruits. Also, I love (real) fruit. I find the scent of the local farmers’ market absolutely intoxicating. Long story short? Both scent variations on fruit appeal to me.

I Love New York for Her is in the 1980s-scents-of-childhood-toys category. There is no denying the unmistakable scent of blueberries. The company claims the smell is that of blueberry muffins; I’m dubious to believe this. I can smell Strawberry Shortcake’s mate, Blueberry Muffin, but not actual blueberry muffins. Does this bother me? Not at all! I quite enjoy this, if I’m being honest. It is nostalgic and joyous. Is this unacceptable at its initial price point of $105 per 50ml? Maybe. As many online reviewers have commented the scent recalls other artificial fruity pop confections out there, namely Britney Spears’ Midnight Fantasy and Bath and Body Works’ Dark Kiss. However and most regrettably, those devolve on my skin in the most revolting way, recalling the scent of melted plastic and claustrophobia, given their cloying natures. ILNYfH does not become a synthetic and cloying mess on me. If anything, it dries down to a smooth and sophisticated fruitchouli, standing miles apart from the masses’ La Vie Est Belles and TM Angels. For me, it is worth the higher price point.

Bond No. 9 has its die-hard fans and its detractors. For the longest time I was one of those detractors. I’ve since found loves within the house but still feel at times they offer pretentiousness in a bottle. This is one of those times where they do not take themselves too seriously but also do not insult the customer with short-lived novelty and no substance. It’s a pity they did not feel it was worth keeping around.

Fruitchouli?
Fruity with a touch of vanilla is my impression. Not extremely sweet but too fruity for my liking. Lasts all day, no touch up needed. As a patchouli lover, I should be able to wear this but my nose cannot tolerate the fruitiness. Maybe there is a citrus buried in the notes that my nose refuses to accept.

This would be a nice fragrance for someone who wants something mildly sweet and lasts all day. Smells pretty nice but I have no desire to own a full bottle. I'm not sure this is a niche quality fragrance. I think Coach Poppy would be a good choice for a substitute.

Love at Third Sight. Happy Ending in Seven Acts.
1. Act: At Mrs. First's bathroom: Expectantly, she sprays for the very first time. She scrunches her face. The top note is far too artificial for her: A somewhat fruity note, but undifferentiated, not the promised blueberry, but an association of slightly sour and also slightly sharp cherry pit aroma flour. Not uninteresting, but ultimately not convincing; the leather accord in the course of time doesn't help anymore. Disappointed, she sets the sample aside. She only doesn't pass it on immediately because she wants to let her friend test a Bond No. 9 as well.

2. Act: Months later. At Mrs. First's home. While she is looking for another fragrance, Mrs. First comes across the sample I Love NY for Her. She remembers wanting to show it to her friend and packs it in her bag for their next meeting.

3. Act: At her friend's place. Both Mrs. First and Mrs. V. spray the fragrance on. Mrs. V. says, wow, that's artificial and so intense. Mrs. First can only agree. She doesn't smell blueberry again, but this time she notices the beautiful undertone of leather earlier. Mrs. V. soon washes off the fragrance, while Mrs. First keeps it on all evening; it becomes more and more leather, and she likes it better and better.

4. Act: A few days later at Mrs. First's home. She thinks, oh, she can use up the little remainder of I Love NY for Her, the heart and base notes were quite nice, and now she feels like a leather scent. This time, the sour-sharp artificial cherry pit aroma of the top note seems to fade noticeably faster; she smells hints of leather again earlier. Mrs. First smiles in anticipation. As with both previous tests, she cannot distinguish the heart and base notes. They are simply the finest, soft, slightly spicy, natural suede in her nose. In this respect, I Love NY for Her has a nearly linear, quite simple progression for her: As the top note slowly recedes, the leather accord takes over, which, she senses, consists primarily of a very finely tuned composition of patchouli, rose, and sandalwood without being able to smell the components separately. She savors the fine scent with pleasure. For well over 9 hours, she feels wrapped in the finest suede. She feels comfortable and stretches out.

5. Act: The next day, in the bathroom. Mrs. First looks at the empty sprayer. She furrows her brow: Too bad, the sample is all gone. She tries to hold it in such a way that the very last bit somehow gets into the rising tube and pumps: A wheezing remnant weakly sprays out. Ah, nice, it's enough for a very light reminder of the beautiful scent. Mrs. First smiles. She no longer finds the top note that artificial. Furthermore, it only remains prominent for about the first 40 minutes out of well over 9 hours.

6. Act: Another day later. Mrs. First sits at her desk. She researches on the computer where she can still get this discontinued fragrance....

7. Act: Yesterday. Mrs. First receives a package. Expectantly, she opens it, pulls out a small pink bottle, and sprays - ah....

Conclusion: In the search for lovers, Bond No. 9 gave up too soon with I Love NY for Her. The lead time is longer when it only sparks on the third glance.

In the Blueberry Scent Heaven ... a Top-Class Fragrance Journey!
This is my first Bond No. 9 and it was supposed to be tested beforehand. However, I ordered it blind (super cheap offer on the bay) out of fear that I might not be able to get it anymore or at absolute horror prices since production has been discontinued. So I quickly ordered a sample from a lovely perfumer beforehand.
As it had to happen... the package with I Love New York for Her arrived before the sample :)
I managed to hold off for half a day before opening it, but then curiosity won.
What can I say... I am thrilled with this sweet-fruity yet also multifaceted fragrance that changes repeatedly over time. I will take you along on this scent journey ;)
About the fragrance:
I Love New York for Her starts with fruity-sweet blueberries. They soon come across as slightly fresh and spicy through an ethereal mandarin peel and nutmeg. I find the scent experience grandiose ... cheerful and like sunshine... definitely lifts the mood. Still fruity-gourmand, the Bond No. 9 ;)
After an hour, the fragrance transitions into a second phase where patchouli and a hint of rose join the blueberries. It now feels more mature and deeper. I Love New York for Her now exudes a warmth that invites comfort.
It remains this way for another hour until we reach scent phase 3.
The blueberry is now only subtly perceptible, the vanilla gives Bond No. 9 the final kick, while sandalwood and musk perfectly round off this scent journey. A hint of leather is also present, but it doesn't bother me here.
I deliberately write about scent phases because I am completely fascinated by the transitions in this fragrance... they are fluid, harmoniously balanced, and long-lasting.
The longevity is quite good... although the scent becomes intimate after about 5 hours. Before that, I am surrounded by a beautiful, delicate scent aura. I Love New York for Her is not a loud fragrance.
The bottle ... typical Bond No. 9 shape in pink. Looks pretty.
I think you can wear the fragrance at any time of day or night and throughout the whole year :)
Conclusion:
I am in blueberry scent heaven ... a high-quality, multifaceted, and sweet gourmand, and so much more... for me, a top-class fragrance journey!
Anyone who wants it should not hesitate ... unfortunately discontinued :(

My Dentist is Happy
Recently, I walked past Apropos.
I quickly walked backward again, as I must have been inattentive for a moment. I never consciously walk PAST that store.

Pink is not my favorite color; I hate pink.
The entrance of the store is pink...a nightmare. A shelf made of elegant glass stands in front of me, and several strange bottles sparkle at me. Black bottles, blue bottles, green bottles, all possible colors are represented.

But one stands out particularly from the crowd...guess three times...yes?.
Which one is it!?

THE PINK BOTTLE

Until now, I always thought that the Bond fragrances smelled rather citrusy and soapy, just a prejudice on my part. I can't even explain why I held this opinion..

I carefully reached for the pink bottle and saw a sticker on the back of the girl’s dream, which read boldly "Blueberry Muffin." Before I could even read the word muffin, as I only suspected it, it was already too late...
Crazy or too bold, I don’t know, the scent landed immediately on my left forearm.
So now to the important part:

Immediately, a vanilla scent comes to me, just like you know it from the kitchen when you tear open a packet of vanillin. Sour, sweet, dry.
After a few seconds, the synthetic mixture dissipates and makes way for something very soft; now the fresh vanilla pod comes in. By fresh, I don’t mean that it smells refreshing or similar; the vanilla is warm and somewhat moist and very powerful. In my opinion, it smells like a sugar bomb, like cheesecake and cookie dough. I must say that it, or rather she, despite the enormous sweetness, does not smell cheap. Patchouli gives it a depth, the rose is dominant and dark..

The leather note holds back for a long time; after about 6 hours of sweetness, this changes.
The sweetness becomes milder, the vanilla remains in the background, and slowly some more bitter notes come in. The leather comes in slowly and becomes stronger, ultimately taking the lead.
After about 8 hours, I no longer have a toothache and have a scent strongly reminiscent of Starbucks blueberry muffins in my nose, which I really love.
It does not fade away; it develops very strongly, and the transitions are fabulous; such a beautiful development should not be missed if you like sweet scents with a certain depth. Very suitable for warmer days, but too intense for hot days.

I like it very much! And by the way, it lasts a long time too.

Oops, I dropped half a bottle of liqueur into the blueberry muffin batter, who cares, let's add more vanilla.

Not muffins, but more of a floral blast for my nose. Not unpleasant though. Roses and peonies on a sweet base. Quite nice.

Instead of the delicious blueberry muffin, she only finds sweet fruity roses. She wraps herself in her light patch coat + puts on the leather gloves.

Vanilla in raspberry cake batter. There's a bit of schnapps too, a bouquet of roses on the table. Unfortunately, it doesn't transport me to ecstasy.

Sweet tooth decay! Smells just as disgustingly artificial and squeaky sweet as that blueberry muffin tea smells. Deluxe toenail roller!

I never liked "blueberry muffin" as a tea flavor! Here too, it's artificial and sweet. But after 1-2 hours, it becomes rosy - lovely!
