Vanilla Treasure

Affordable fragrances that primarily smell of vanilla could almost form their own category. There are some total flops, but also many treasures. Generally, it pays to be open-minded, as you often get pleasantly surprised. I felt the same way about Vanilla Darling.

I’m not necessarily a fan of the brand. I mainly think of that mini-series that often had to serve as a gift in lower school when you didn’t really know the person to be gifted. Yes, they get the nostalgia point, but I wouldn’t wear any of them outside. That’s why I was skeptical about Vanilla Darling until I saw the good review here and just decided to trust it - what do you have to lose?

At DM, I then realized that most people felt the same way as I did: the entire fragrance line had gathered dust because it was so rarely picked up. Well, I was so curious that I didn’t care anymore. The first test was promising, so I took it with me. What prompted me to write this comment was the development...

At first, you perceive a minimally sweet, milky, slightly floral vanilla. Vanilla Darling starts off very subtle, but over time it becomes warmer and cozier. At some point, you feel as if you are surrounded by vanilla milk and candies. Personally, I also detect a very light caramel note, but vanilla undoubtedly dominates. In my opinion, this composition lifts your spirits because it makes you think of delightful treats and briefly forget the rest of the world. Moreover, the longevity is quite good for the price!

For Vanilla Darling, Ulric de Varens truly deserves praise in my opinion. A fragrance with this development and longevity is not necessarily standard in this price range. Unfortunately, this treasure is so inconspicuous that it has received far too little attention and is now being phased out at DM. What a shame... But a backup doesn’t hurt. Let’s just hope that Ulric de Varens releases new fragrances soon. If the quality remains the same, I’m already looking forward to seeing what will be on the shelf instead of Vanilla Darling!
