Unorthodox Wolf Pact
Brand / Perfumer
I looked it up: Heresy comes from the Greek, haireomai, and originally meant "choice." Only later did it take on the meaning of a decision against the established religion. The Valas perfume line primarily adorns itself with names from the Nordic pantheon, but Heresy interprets it timelessly: "It means to dare. It means freedom."This thought fits well with the natural fragrance philosophy of perfumer Moi Yggdottir, whose website immediately reminded me of the film "Brotherhood of the Wolf," which I love. A dark alchemical laboratory with peacock feathers and incense, daringly occult, led by Moi as an intuitive nature witch. In sober reality, she presents herself more as a cheerful and diligent businesswoman, who eagerly and thoroughly answered our questions about ingredients & Co and readily accommodated special requests when ordering.
I also love the ornate design of the serif-labeled sample stickers, resembling a simple zoologist in Celtic style. Ornate and effortlessly among the top 10 of all sample designs I have ever seen.
Fragrance
Leather start - and I'm not a leather fan. But Heresy brings it closer to me; I can handle such a velvety dark suede. Is it from the wolves? A pale rose soon softens the roughened velvet and unobtrusively nestles in between. Heresy doesn't become floral directly, but the blend now feels friendlier, after an hour even somewhat fresh and powdery with a tiny hint of honey. Throughout the day, any floral influences recede and give way to a dry woody base, through which resinous golden threads weave and balsamically rise. Here it becomes a bit more serious again, but it is a dreamy seriousness that lets its dark secrets glide through the senses.Would I wear it? Yes, although due to the leather start, Heresy cannot become a favorite. I certainly like it on others. What I also appreciate is the varied progression of this natural perfume, which bears the typically dark signature of its perfumer. After testing about ten fragrances, I can recommend this relatively affordable natural fragrance brand to anyone who enjoys images like the one sketched here.
