The scent of Italy
Love this unsung treasure that was thrown into my lap via eBay for a sick price so naturally I jumped on it. This particular bottle is vintage and it's quite old so I was very pleased when I found the scent still in remarkable condition. Since this was launched in 1981 this bottle looks like it's from the mid 1980s at least. The scent is minty forest like fresh and the performance is quite good. It's a little bit harsh in the beginning but that eventually calms down and settles nicely for the next 6hrs or so. Considering it's an EDC that kind of longevity is a God send. It reminds me of those post WW2 Mediterranean marvels like Pino Silvestre and Acqua di Selva with much better longevity. This is definitely an older man's cologne and young people won't have much to do with this Classic and that's a pity considering the slop that's being shoveled out currently. I think they're making around 10,000 bottles a year aren't they?? Lol Anyway Victor Fresco was a nice surprising find for me and it fits very nicely with the rest of my collection.

Agrestic Cologne
An old school Italian cologne; green, herbal and fresh.
It has the ambience of a café in the hills, tobacco stained and rustic, filled with working men (only men - this is a rough and ready style where the notes are clearly defined; there -is- a floral heart and vanillin, but Fresco has no truck with the dandified haze of Acqua di Parma Colonia.)

If you like Coty's Emeraude -and- Blenheim Bouquet you'll do fine with this; it's got the bonhomie and green baize, but none of the snobbery.

Fresh? Cold, very cold!
Hingesplasht, and oops, this summer water startles with hissing cold lemon! Immediately, a glaringly bright and hard Neroli note joins in - monotonous, with no shifting into darker and warmer tones from other citrus fruits.

Soon, the character shifts from light yellow to dark green, but it remains cold: mint of the type Fisher's friend. Gradually, the cold fades, and a hint of mustiness emerges. Marshy coriander, moldy thyme, and dull lavender create a blend that might be quite daring even for lovers of distinctly herbal-green scents. Then, an exotic note flickers, slightly burnt and cinnamon-like, causing unease. It is the otherwise beautifully sweet-spicy tree blossom Ylang-Ylang, which, if properly unfolded, could have been the highlight of the perfume.

In less than half an hour, the scent becomes flatter, freshness and herbaceousness are lost, and only a delicate citrus hint remains. On my skin, which is usually receptive to wood and moss, the base stays silent. Adding more does not help; it only amplifies the dull green heart note.

Scusa: “Fresco” is not cool and fresh, rather cold and musty. It’s a shame that this cologne develops so poorly on me. The Eau “Original” by Victor, with a similarly summery-hedonic character, on the other hand, I find exceptionally pleasing.

Gentlemen! Take out your notes, grab a pen, and write this down:
“On the first day of my next trip to Italy, I don’t want to miss the chance to buy a bottle of Fresco, which I will then enjoy using throughout my vacation.”*

The low purchase price should not deter anyone from this plan but rather encourage it. As a reward, you will get what is boldly stated on the bottle - freshness!

Fresco starts, as an Eau de Cologne should, and as the fragrance pyramid promises, with a juicy but not biting freshness. With lemon, grapefruit, orange, and neroli joining in, it’s a classic but by no means simple opening. The heart note consists of various fresh-spicy herbs that remain present as the woody base slowly makes its way through. Thanks to bergamot in the heart and vetiver in the base note, the freshness is maintained throughout the fragrance.

Fresco is an elegant but also masculine cologne due to its woody base. The scent is an excellent companion on hot summer days, and it can be easily refreshed throughout the day. If by the end of the vacation there are still a few sprays left in the simple bottle, you can take a little piece of Italy home with you.

Because of the qualities of the fragrance and its unbeatable price-performance ratio, I am quite surprised to be the first to write a comment here. The scent deserves greater recognition.

* I specifically dictated the purchase suggestion to myself in my notebook, as my -thankfully provided by Duftstick- sample is soon coming to an end.

Another Mediterranean Classic by the house of Victor from 1981 which was during the golden age of perfumerie

The rocket scientist among colognes. Starts green-spicy. Then fresh, floral notes. Then citrus-woody. Unique.

I was tempted by the comment and bought it. Unfortunately, it didn't go over well with family and friends. I smelled like my mom.
