Per il Signore!
The fact that I want to discuss Aqua di Selva here in my very first review is perhaps a little cheeky... you could just as well ask a lawyer for a qualified opinion on Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. However, I have my reasons: This classic here really surprised me.
What do we have here? From the head to the heart to the base, nothing that has anything remotely to do with the usual shelf-ware from the usual chains. It starts with a citrus overture: Lime dominates only very briefly; within a few seconds, it takes its leave in the direction of a spicier, herbaceous note - thyme? I don't really notice pine, but there are other things that I can't really describe. More like a whole garden of spices. If you give the Acqua a few more minutes, the citrus notes - which have now clearly receded into the background - come through again. However, in a significantly different, more subtle form than at the beginning. An almost earthy, tart note remains, but not dirty - clean, clean, with a very slight powdery residual sweetness.
This fragrance is a show with several acts. This distinguishes it wonderfully from many later products, where after 10 seconds you already know what the water will smell like 2 hours later (still). The head, heart and base each have their own program, and it is amazing how far apart they are - and yet how harmoniously they merge into one another.
Lasting power: about 6-8 hours. Moderate sillage and projection. Not a party fragrance, not for rednecks, not for people under 40, but I can imagine it on many a bold lady. And of course on an urbane signore, where the fragrance only complements the stylish elegance that he already has without it.
