Mysterious
Salty, alien chert, one of the weirdest oud I have ever smelled. This eerie fragrance is cold as the air in the mountains, dark as a charred tree trunk, and refers to the sharp cliffs clearly. The sweet sunflower seeds, resins and autumn feeling comes later. BRUME D’HIVER developes prosperity till the incense-like soap status, I could call it a clean and fresh oud scent, and it is unique as being alone in this category.

This beauty is light and inscrutable, you can never feel it enough strong to read in its mind and soul.

BRUME D’HIVER is in my opinion unisex, fits better to cold weather, so autumn and winter, than other seasons, gives a better connection to fate than to dawn.

I am longing for better sillage and more bravery in total, but a brave and loud BRUME D’HIVER would not be the same fragrance as my beloved one.

The bottle fits perfectly to the sough-like perfume.

French orientalism
Perfumer Amélie Bourgois belongs to "FLAIR", a perfume creation studio in Paris. As an independent perfumer, she had the oppurtunity to create several new perfumes which are supposed to be "evocative of the past" and participate in the resurrection of the House of Volnay (which dates back to the year 1919). "Brume d'hiver" is no light fragrance mist (as its name might indicate), but a fully-fledged Eau de Parfum. It boasts a prominent cast of rose, jasmine, elemi resin, incense, musk, vanilla, clove and - oud. It is this very ingredient which steals the show, dominating all the other protagonists with its deep, dark notes. I can't help being reminded of countless other oud-based creations of the last five years (Montale!), but fortunately, "Brume d'hiver" is more wearable than your usual "Black Aoud", since it is less provocative and a touch quieter, more understated than most oud-fragrances. The "oud-issue" certainly engendered much opinion in the past already, both in favour and against. I'm definetely fed up with oud, hence I can't find any words of praise for this new example of "French orientalism" with alleged roots in the last century.

Rose/incense/oud
Brume d'hiver is a perfume in my opinión based on the rose. A bit similar to etoiles d'or but less sweet and balsámic. The opening is Also less citrussy. The rose is dry, powdery and spicy at opening due yo the elemi and the Junípero to become then mire smoky and Woody with the action of the incense and the oud. It is an interesting perfume, subtle for being and oud perfume, with a very nice rose. I would say It is an easy wearing rose/oud fragance.
The longevity is good. Nevertheless the sillage is soft. I find It unisex and nice for daytime use.

Honey, I grilled roses...

….he calls out, grinning diabolically and throws another log of resinous wood into the bonfire he is burning in the garden.
She has once again marinated the steaks with juniper berries. She knows that he dislikes both their strong taste and smell.
For many years of their marriage, which has become quite worn out, they have been trying to annoy each other. Cedar needles fall into the fire as he pours himself some rose punch mixed with 45% rum.
They spare no effort. She complains about his eternal sweatpants, which are already sagging at the knees, and he shoots back, claiming that she has lost all her feminine attributes and should pluck her eyebrows again, as she looks like the neighbor's giant schnauzer.
Waves of incense drift over from the church across the street. The priest has gone overboard again.
An alpaca has escaped from its enclosure, runs by, and nervously releases musk-scented puffs. She catches it, buries her nose in its fur, and cries. Finally, a bit of reconciliatory sweetness emerges. From the tear-stained little furball, a light powdery note wafts away.
As she blows her nose, smudged and almost reconciled, she glances at her husband because he calls out: “I didn’t mean it that way, come on, let’s make up!” when cow Elsa trots by and relieves herself with a pat. OUD!
On the church roof, a female eagle has settled down. She stretches one wing, then the other. She cleans her beak and calls out: “Who on earth came up with the idea of calling this stinky stuff eagle wood? Wouldn’t skunk wood have been more fitting? We are beautiful and unique birds!”
I am quite fond of the house of Volnay, but the Brume Rose is too diffuse, too smoky, and sharply resinous, that it lacks any sweetness (for me).

Longing for Summer
Although it is just a little bit spring here, there is still little green to be seen; two days ago, everything was still white with frost in the morning, the nights clear and starry, one could see the Milky Way with the naked eye, I keep thinking of the scent of "Brume d'Hiver." And with it comes the following melancholic song:
An autumn song - a late winter song
It comes from the era of pre-classical "New Sensibility," 18th century. It speaks allegorically of nature:

"The Summer Night," text by G. Klopstock, set to music by Willibald Gluck

When the shimmer of the moon now pours down into the forests,
and scents waft with the fragrances of the linden in the coolness,

thoughts of the grave of my beloved overshadow me, and I see in the forest
only it dimming, and the flowers do not waft to me.

I once enjoyed, oh you dead, it with you! How the scent and the coolness surrounded us! How beautified you were by the moon, oh beautiful nature!

"Brume d'Hiver," the "Winter Mist."
This is a scent like a mist, a breath, a memory of summer. The little melancholy that sweeps over one in early autumn in nature, in the forests, the heath, and by rivers. The golden light, the sparkling spider webs, the already yellowing grass, the beginning of leaf fall with its bitter scent nuances.
All of this is captured in "Brume d'Hiver."
It is a warm scent, woody, resinous, earthy, and spicy with a very faint lovely floral touch.
"Brume d'Hiver" becomes more bitter, Oud and wood intensify. The Oud shifts between slightly smoky and animalistic phases. Alongside, a very delicate complex floral blend emerges, creamy and always beneath the wood, the resins, lightly scented with rose and heliotrope.
Just as it is in nature.
According to the description at ALzD, all Volnay scents are supposed to weave in the "Base 4092." This is a base component of rose, vanilla, and clove. It seems to be the unsweetened bitter vanilla pod that wonderfully complements the woody scents and seems to soften their bitterness.
From time to time, a very light hint of clove also drifts by.
On me, the scent already stands out after a relatively short time on one hand. Nevertheless, the scent notes alternate again and again. While "Brume d'Hiver" is fundamentally a woody and resinous scent.
The sillage seems very fine yet distinct and remains consistently intense throughout its longevity. A skin-close scent.
The longevity with the fine sillage is unexpectedly good for me.
The character of "Brume d'Hiver" is somewhat like that of "Epic Woman," but also that of Roja's "Amber Oud," yet more delicate-floral and woody-resinous, subtle while the Oud itself is noticeably more pronounced in relation.
In my opinion, "Brume d'Hiver" is a scent for the whole year.

Powdery oudy rose that opens sharply with juniper, top notes face quickly though. Could be unisex.

Sweet-floral roses
play in a light spicy smoke
until it gets darker and
finally becomes too oud for them.

An extremely trusting Oud creature, tamed with incense and adorned with roses in its fur. Neither female nor male: universally trained.

Even though this scent is subtle. The rose is showcased so beautifully - for me, it's a little work of art that later becomes slightly powdery.

I thought it was a Frederic Malle blind buy. Really a beautiful scent with a great slightly-dirty twist. Wow, this is amazing!

Elemi+Rose, no animal, just its trace in the woods: crushed violets on the path, claw marks on the wood. Incense wafting above.
