Creamy sandalwood & parchouli
Ambre de Siam is not what i expected according to the name... But maybe It is even better. It has some ambery vibe from the beggining, but AdS is not only an amber perfume. Ambre de Siam opens citrusy and spicy with the ginger, the bergamot and the tea... The It becomes Woody and creamy... It remember me a lot to 001 by Loewe, with a very similar sandalwood & patchouli creamy feeling, but more citrusy and with different spices. AdS is Also a bit more balsámic than 001 with the incense and r
The benzoin and only a tiny bit smoky. For me is a very nice balsámic and fresh scent for daytime use. Unisex.

Slightly Time-Shifted Version of an Oriental Bazaar
Hookah-smoking rickshaw drivers taking a break, chess players on the roadside, signposts in exotic scripts. But even those who cannot read will be inspired by the scents and will automatically head in the direction from which they come.
First, you encounter a small Buddhist temple where incense sticks are glowing. The narrow street to the left reveals small shops where everything the oriental heart desires is offered at open doors. From colorful silk fabrics to incense, singing bowls, fragrance lamps, spices, and perfume oils. Even well-aged firewood for outdoor cooking has its buyers. This street is the harbinger of a large bazaar to which it leads.
Three times a week, everyone has the opportunity to snag the "most far-out" things there. "Antique" tables and furniture, warming trays from the 18th century on which bowls of scented water steam their aroma, wooden boxes in which small amber chunks waft their scent, dried roses arranged into a fragrance bouquet. A mix of cinnamon and cloves, enriched with ginger for special dishes, slightly dusty turbans for "fashionable" gentlemen, scented shawls for the ladies..... everything feels somehow subtly surreal, as if one has landed in the 1910s or 1920s of the last century. For a while, one might let oneself be lulled in and enjoy it. All that loud, but mostly friendly hustle and bustle.
Before one falls back into the modernity of the present time. Just in case, a fragrance has been created that reminds us that there is a "world behind the world."
Ambre de Siam. Somewhat quirky and therefore highly interesting!

Anna and the King of Siam
Siam - the fairy-tale land in the Far East that captivated Europe and America in the first half of the 20th century. The corresponding Western conception of this fairy-tale country was then realized in a film in 1956 featuring Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr (The King and I).

Today, hardly anyone knows what Siam means, aside from Siamese cats - the cream-colored ones with black markings on their faces, paws, and tails, and their blue eyes - and Siamese twins.
Many "Westerners" travel there for vacations, as Siam largely corresponds to present-day Thailand, which was renamed in 1939. Part of the name change was also because the name Siam was primarily used by Western nations, which the then-dictator did not like at all.

Personally, I prefer the name Siam over Thailand. It somehow sounds more "fairy-tale-like." Accordingly, my expectations for the new Volnay "Ambre de Siam" were high. I enjoy amber scents - most of them, anyway - and was looking forward to the first sample, even though the initial statement about this fragrance was quite off-putting.

Upon application, a strong alcoholic cloud predominates, but it dissipates as it dries down. I can distinctly perceive a teen note, along with something sharp that could, with a lot of imagination, be described as ginger. However, there is no trace of bergamot.

This lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes, then a pronounced oud note emerges - I would describe it as a "Europeanized" oud note. Fine and soft, and dosed discreetly enough that it does not come off as intrusive, but rather fitting. There are also some floral accents, but the fragrance primarily comes across to me as woody, aromatic, soft, almost creamy. Both the powderiness and the clove and incense remain subtly in the background.

Only after many hours does the vanilla become more prominent, patchouli here contributes more sweetness than earthiness or mustiness, and the white musk simmers on low heat. I can still perceive cashmeran, and although I generally do not like it, here it does not bother me, as it is subtler than the other fragrance components.

All in all, I quite like the scent; however, the name is confusing. Anyone expecting an amber fragrance, as I did, will be disappointed. It is a gourmand, creamy soft oud scent with various accompanying components for rounding out. Nice, but not a candidate for purchase for me.

Knead ginger & bergamot
into the moist, fertilized soil.
Woah, such spice!!
Smoke escapes,
becoming woody and
slowly amber-soft.

Bangkok in the 1920s, the spicy scent of street food at Wat Saket mingles with that of incense in the temple. Noble and beautiful.

Sweet, spicy, with buried patchouli underneath, sandalwood clearly noticeable; overall nice but definitely not for me.

Here we have an attempt to create a resinous-spicy amber scent that is more woody and less sweet: intense amber for men?

Green-resinous start then smoky-woody on balsamic notes/Patchouli.
Powder-dry + rather unsweet.

After a ginger/bergamot explosion, Ambre de Siam reveals itself as a dry-woody, creamy-smoky companion. Strong, but underrated!
