Fennel Fields, Blessed by the Sun
I ride my bike along dirt paths, through the Hessian Ried, towards G. on the Rhine. Fields as far as the eye can see. Only occasionally interrupted by some old fruit trees.
To get to G., I have to cross a highway bridge.
From up there, I have a good view of a "patchwork quilt" that stretches into the distance.
The green-yellow of the fennel fields is unmistakable, not to mention the scent.
Medicinal plants from the field, many different ones.
But fennel stands out. Sweet and bitter at the same time, subtly spicy, this scent makes "the mouth water"... freshly brewed fennel tea, "captured sun," calming and uplifting.
Next to it are herb fields, dill, chives, parsley, and..... in rows in between......
Basil with its somewhat oddly rounded leaves and the intense "green-spicy" aroma.
Everything olfactory mixes here into ..... summer-medicine-tea-field scent.
When the wind blows from the west, it carries this odor often for kilometers.
When it is still, you get a hint of it....
With "Basil + Bergamot," it is a breeze... between hint and encounter for the nose.
Relatively noticeable for about 2 hours, then fading to a "hint,"
A beautiful, quirky "sun scent"..... only its farewell is too quick....
