London EDP: The Replacement for the Extraits? For me, probably YES!

So, today I got to spray "London (Eau de Parfum) | Widian / AJ Arabia" for the first time around 3:00 PM. Before I dive into the scent: Yes, I thought the difference would be huge and that the "diluted" version would not only be weaker but probably also smell a bit different.

Did my fears come true? Absolutely not, on the contrary. It’s just after 10 PM - about 7 hours later - and the EDP is still projecting and holding very well! I am very positively surprised! Now, let’s get into the scent:

- First; the scent DNA is, in my view, incredibly similar throughout the entire scent journey. Yes, in the opening the difference is marginally noticeable. Here, the Extrait - "London (Extrait de Parfum) | Widian / AJ Arabia" - is a bit denser, stronger. The difference in the air is hardly perceptible for laypeople; I have known and smelled the "London (Extrait de Parfum) | Widian / AJ Arabia" for a long time and can detect a bit more of the "Oud" in the Extrait; the Extrait is slightly more voluminous, while the new EDP feels a bit "airier," just a little; perhaps the cypress is a bit more present here, but only marginally.

- As the scent develops, the fragrances come closer together, making it practically impossible to perceive any differences. The entire scent journey down to the drydown is nearly identical for laypeople (without being disrespectful, but my wife is not deeply into the game, though a bit, and she couldn’t perceive any significant differences). I also hardly notice the differences; everything is where it should be; the raspberry, the leather, all similarly accentuated. Yes, the EDP feels a tiny bit "fluffier, lighter," but hey, we’re really talking about 3-5% difference with nearly identical DNA, just in a "airier" way (you know what I mean).

- The longevity is damn good, considering we’re talking about an EDP compared to the Extrait. It could be that the Extrait lasts maybe another hour longer, but now after more than 7 hours, both are similarly detectable, with the big difference coming in the projection... because in my perception, the EDP has a significantly better sillage; and that lasts for several hours. After 7 hours, I can still perceive the scent very well, and it continues to project.

So, why the EDP if they are so similar? Personally, I believe the EDP was released mainly for the "frequent users" of London, as the Extrait is already quite pricey at 50ML. Furthermore, there has been a focus on sillage, which aligns with the current zeitgeist; everyone wants strong fragrances, or at least the broad masses do. I also think that the price/performance ratio will simply be decisive for many; you get more performance for a lower price per ML.

What do I recommend?
Hmm... if you don’t have London, buy the EDP directly, a more sustainable investment. Do you need both? Absolutely not, unless you’re fragrance-obsessed like I am... but over time, I will probably switch to the EDP personally :)

So, I hope this review helps you :)

Thank you for the great review! It sounds really interesting, although I find the 50ml bottle of the Extrait more beautiful. On the other hand, it just stays at home anyway, and in the end, it's the scent that matters.

Good evening, after reading your lovely review, I searched online for the Eau de Parfum and could hardly find it. Only twice: once 50ml for €255 (the same price as the Extrait) and once 100ml for €350. Is that the price difference you mentioned? And is it normal that the EdP is almost nowhere to be found?
Have a nice evening!
